5 Ways Live it Up Super Greens Beats Balance of Nature

From ingredient lists to affordability, customer reviews, and more, here’s why a dietitian recommends Live it Up Super Greens over Balance of Nature.

5 Ways Live it Up Super Greens Beats Balance of Nature

In this article:

For many, the idea of taking capsule super green supplements like Balance of Nature may sound ideal! Simply swallow a few capsules without having to drink a glass of greens juice.

In this article, I’ll dive into Balance of Nature’s Fruits and Veggies capsules and why, as a dietitian, I believe Live it Up Super Greens outperforms them. I’ll cover my top reasons, the ingredients, purported health benefits, cost, and customer satisfaction.

My goal is for this article to equip you with the facts and insight to help you choose the best supplement for you since everyone’s health goals and needs are different. Ultimately, after reviewing both brands, Live it Up is still my top super greens supplement for five important reasons.

Dietitian Reasons to Choose Live it Up vs. Balance of Nature

I tried both Balance of Nature and Live it Up, reviewing both for nutritional value and ease of use. Here are five reasons why I recommend Live it Up to my clients over Balance Nature.

1. Live it Up is transparent about nutrients

Supplements are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), so it’s important to look for one that is transparent about its micronutrient content on the Supplement Facts Panel.

Balance of Nature doesn’t disclose micronutrient content; the only information the panel discloses is the total carbohydrate count. Even though these capsules are filled with fruits and veggies, it’s unclear whether they actually offer the essential nutrients your body needs.

Conversely, Live it Up clearly discloses the exact amounts of micronutrients, from vitamins A and K to zinc, magnesium, and more. Because of this, I feel confident confirming that Live it Up has the vitamins and minerals needed to back up their health claims.

Dietitian Tip: Everyone’s health goals and needs are different. Make sure your supplements transparently list the micronutrients included to ensure you’re getting the vitamins and minerals your body needs to reach your goals.

2. Live it Up is gut-friendly

Gut health is essential for overall wellness, which is why I always urge my clients to incorporate supplements with probiotics and digestive enzymes into their routine. Balance of Nature does not have any probiotics, fiber, or digestive enzymes, likely making it ineffective for gut health.

Live it Up Super Greens contains 5 billion CFU of probiotics, 3 grams of fiber, and a blend of three digestive enzymes. Together, these provide your gut with the healthy bacteria and yeast to better process food, absorb nutrients, and potentially reduce bloating.

3. Live it Up is deliciously easy

If you don’t enjoy taking powdered greens supplements, it’s harder to make it a regular habit! Live it Up dissolves easily in water, juice, and smoothies, leaving no gritty texture. Available in two flavors—Original (lightly minty) and Wild Berry (lightly tart)—this dietary supplement is something you enjoy once a day.

Balance of Nature may draw people in for its convenient capsule formula. However, a single serving requires 6 large, hard-to-swallow capsules. Many reviewers report difficulty swallowing the capsules and feeling overwhelmed by the large quantity required per serving.

4. Live it Up uses high-quality ingredients

As mentioned earlier, supplements are unregulated by the FDA, making it essential to find one that uses high-quality ingredients. Balance of Nature is filled with whole fruits and veggies. However, these ingredients are not organic, nor does the company disclose where the ingredients are sourced.

Live it Up makes the Super Greens powder with organic vegetables. Additionally, the company states that ingredients are globally sourced from trusted farms and selected for quality. Super Greens is also non-GMO and produced in strict GMP-certified facilities to ensure quality and safety.

5. Live it Up is fairly priced with no hidden fees

Dietary supplements are most effective when taken regularly, which means that you should feel comfortable with the price of your supplement in order to make it a habit. A single order of Balance of Nature costs $89.95, coming out to $3.00 per serving. Compared to Live it Up, which costs $59.99 for a 30-serving pouch ($1.99 per serving), Balance of Nature is 34% more expensive per serving.

Both Live it Up and Balance of Nature offer subscriptions to help reduce the price you pay per month. You can save 33% on Super Greens, whereas Balance of Nature’s subscription saves you $20, or 22% of the original price. Additionally, Balance of Nature tacks on a one-time “membership fee” of $24.95 when signing up for a subscription.

Balance of Nature Overview

Retired chiropractic physician Douglas Howard founded Balance of Nature in 1997 with a simple goal—make it easy to get your daily serving of whole fruits and veggies for a balanced diet. The company offers three supplement products intended to provide comprehensive nutrition: Fruit capsules, Veggie capsules, and Fiber and Spice capsules.

The Fruit and Veggie capsules are sold together as a set. A single serving of the Fruit and Veggies supplement requires 6 capsules (3 fruit and 3 veggie supplement capsules).

A single serving (3 capsules) of the Fruits supplement contains:

  • Calories: 10
  • Carbohydrates: 2g
  • Fiber: Not disclosed
  • Vitamins and minerals: Not disclosed

A single serving (3 capsules) of the Veggies supplement contains:

Balance of Nature Ingredients

Balance of Nature has a simple approach: fruits, veggies, and nothing else (like probiotics or digestive enzymes).

Balance of Nature’s Fruits supplements contain 16 whole fruits:

  • Apple, banana, grapes
  • Blueberry, cherry, cranberry, raspberry, strawberry
  • Grapefruit, lemon, orange
  • Mango, papaya, pineapple
  • Aloe vera and tomatoes

The Veggie supplements are made from 15 whole vegetables: broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, cayenne pepper, celery, garlic, kale, shiitake mushrooms, onion, soybeans, spinach, sweet potato, wheatgrass, and zucchini. Of note in the veggie supplements is the inclusion of soy, making this unsafe for people with soy allergies.

Balance of Nature Quality and Safety

Balance of Nature has been cited by the FDA and the State of California for its manufacturing practices, quality, and safety. Concerns regarding the company began in 2019 when the FDA released statements that Balance of Nature was making unapproved health claims. In 2023, the company’s manufacturer was cited for non-compliance with GMP standards. Balance of Nature was court-ordered to cease operations until they could prove compliance.

The company has since resumed operations, and Balance of Nature also says that they are third-party tested and GMP-certified. However, I recommend seeking a supplement that has a track record of continued safety and quality excellence, like Live it Up Super Greens.

Balance of Nature Potential Health Benefits

Unlike other greens supplements, Balance of Nature does not claim to target any specific health benefits. Though the Fruits & Veggie Supplements and Fiber and Spice Supplements make up the Whole Health System to support overall nutrition, Balance of Nature does not attest to supporting digestion, immunity, energy, or other purported benefits commonly targeted by competitors.

What’s more, it’s difficult to determine whether Balance of Nature achieves the purported benefits of whole-food nutrition since the company does not disclose the supplements’ vitamin and mineral facts. Yes, these capsules are filled with whole fruits and veggies, but I hesitate to conjecture whether these supplements actually offer the plant-based nutrition they claim to without more nutrition information.

Dietitian Tip: Look for dietary supplements with at least 5 billion CFU of probiotics. This will ensure you’re providing your gut with the healthy bacteria needed for digestive wellness.

Live it Up Super Greens Overview

Haim Nigri created Live it Up in 2021 with the goal of making nutrition accessible to all. Since launching with the original Super Greens powder, which targets digestion, immunity, gut health, and overall wellness, Live it Up has expanded our supplement lineup to target other areas of nutritional wellness: antioxidant-rich Feel the Beet to energy and Golden Hour to support relaxation and joint health.

Super Greens is available in two fresh flavors (Wild Berry and Original) and dissolves easily in water without any of the grittiness often associated with greens powders. This unique formula has carved a space in the health food realm for being delicious, transparent about vitamin and mineral quantities, and affordable enough for daily use.

Customer Satisfaction

Customer reviews are another area where these brands differ. Generally, Balance of Nature customers are dissatisfied with the high price and the capsule size. The customer service team is also reportedly hard to reach and unhelpful when it comes to canceling subscriptions or offering refunds.

One person said, “This is very expensive and has no list of ingredients other than the fruits and veggies…”

Another reviewer agreed, adding that they are “extremely hard to swallow as well as too expensive.”

I took a look at the reviews for Super Greens and found most customers to be happy with the product and customer service.

Regarding the efficacy of the greens, one person said, “I have used the product for a while now and simply love it. It is a staple of my morning smoothie and it supplies me with great energy.”

What are the issues with Balance of Nature?

Currently, Balance of Nature does not pose any issues as a company. When it comes to the product itself, customers report difficulty swallowing the large capsules, expensive price point, and customer service.

What are the side effects of Live it Up Super Greens?

Like with any dietary supplement, Live it Up Super Greens may cause bloating, gas, or mild digestive upset, especially if you currently do not consume sufficient amounts of fiber on a regular basis. Your body may need two weeks to fully adjust.

Is drinking greens powder actually good for you?

Yes, drinking greens powder is an excellent way to get your daily recommended fruits and veggies. It’s important to select a greens powder that is transparent about its nutrient quantities to ensure that the product you’re consuming actually offers the vitamins and minerals your body needs for overall wellness. Even if you eat a diet rich in fruits and veggies, a daily greens powder may fill the nutritional gaps your regular diet doesn’t fill.
