An Honest Review of Herbalife Greens Booster

Get the inside scoop on what a registered dietitian really thinks about Herbalife’s new greens powder–and if it’s worth the hassle of buying.

An Honest Review of Herbalife Greens Booster

In this article:

As a dietitian, I’m often asked if super greens supplements are worth the hype. While my answer is usually yes, it depends on the product and its ingredients. For many busy adults, getting the recommended daily greens intake can be difficult. Super greens powders can help to bridge that gap, providing the necessary nutrients for optimal health and wellness in one easy, convenient package.

I’ve been curious about Herbalife’s V Plant-Based Greens Booster and wanted to take a deeper dive into this super greens powder. Here, I share my take on this product’s pros and cons to help you decide whether Herbalife Greens Booster or Live it Up Super Greens is the best addition to your diet (hint: my preference is Live it Up!).

Herbalife V Plant-Based Greens Booster Quick Facts

  • Key ingredients:
    • 1 billion CFUs of probiotics
    • 5.8 g of Veggies Plus Blend
    • 2.5 g of Grass, Sprouts, and Algae Blend
    • 0.4 g Herbs, Spices, and Tea Blend
  • Flavors: The one flavor is described as earthy and sweet with a greens-forward taste.
  • Manufacturer health claims: Supports overall health and wellness, providing a mix of vegetables and fruits that people might not be getting in their regular diet.
  • Possible side effects: The company claims that there are no side effects of Herbalife products, though any greens powder may have potential effects, including digestive upset, allergic reactions, or medication interactions.
  • Not recommended for:
    • Individuals sensitive to caffeine or gluten.
  • Calories:
    • 40 calories per serving
  • Price and Shipping:
    • Customers must contact an Herbalife independent distributor to unlock pricing and shipping costs. However, one independent distributor’s website sells Herbalife V Plant-Based Greens Booster for $58.20, or $2.91 per serving.

Bottom Line: Is Herbalife Greens Worth a Try?

Herbalife V Plant-Based Greens Booster includes a wow-worthy mix of 26 superfoods rich in vitamins and minerals, offering an easy way to support your daily greens intake. But the cons outweigh the pros for me, as it lacks transparency in ingredient amounts, contains caffeine, and isn’t convenient to purchase. I would instead recommend Live it Up Super Greens, which has a similar number of superfoods but is fully transparent with how many vitamins and minerals each serving provides.

What Is Herbalife Greens?

Herbalife International, Inc., is a multilevel marketing (MLM) company with millions of distributors selling its products all over the world. Its US-based subsidiary is called Herbalife International of America, Inc. The company was founded in 1980 by Mark Hughes, with the initial goal of helping people lose weight.

Herbalife has since expanded to overall health and wellness, with products like Herbalife V Plant-Based Greens Booster. The greens booster is a powder supplement that includes 1 billion CFUs of probiotics and three proprietary blends of superfoods in each serving:

  • Veggies Plus Blend includes fruits and vegetables like apple, carrot, kale, blueberry, and sweet potato
  • Grass, Sprouts, and Algae Blend has barley grass juice, chlorella, and more
  • Herbs, Spices, and Tea Blend contains ashwagandha, parsley, green tea extract, and more

Herbalife Pros

  • Features 1 g of dietary fiber and 1 billion CFUs of probiotics to support gut health
  • Contains 1 g of protein
  • Ingredients are certified USDA Organic, Vegan & Plant-based, Non-GMO Project Verified, and Kosher
  • Conducts third-party testing
  • Manufacturing sites comply with international occupational health and safety standards

Herbalife Cons

  • Herbalife is an MLM company
  • Only available for purchase through an Herbalife independent distributor
  • Probiotics are underdosed
  • No vitamins or minerals are listed other than iron
  • Contains 3 g of sugar
  • Ashwagandha is underdosed
  • Contains green tea, which naturally has caffeine
  • Unclear if the chlorella has a broken/cracked cell wall, which is critical for it to be bioavailable
  • Doesn’t come with a premeasured scoop

Herbalife Greens Purported Benefits

Herbalife V Plant-Based Greens Booster doesn’t make any health claims other than supporting overall health and wellness by supplementing your diet with vegetables and fruits.

The Herbalife V Plant-Based Greens Booster Product Overview Claiming to Support Your Overall Health and Wellness

Now, for people who don’t eat many fruits and veggies—or for individuals who temporarily cannot eat whole foods—Herbalife's vegan greens powder may help to ensure that you’re getting enough of these foods in your diet. But as a dietitian, I always look for transparency in a product’s Supplement Facts, and this product is severely lacking in that department.

Herbalife doesn’t list the amounts of each vitamin or mineral included except for iron. While iron is crucial for many bodily processes, a serving of Herbalife Greens includes less than 1 mg, only a small percentage of the recommended daily dose

When adding any supplement to a diet, it’s important to make sure that you have a full understanding of how much of each nutrient you’re getting. Without this information listed on the Herbalife V Plant-Based Greens Booster, it may leave someone wondering how this product is actually supporting their health and wellness.

Herbalife Greens Ingredient Breakdown

Herbalife V Plant-Based Greens Booster features a suite of superfoods, so let's take a closer look at the key ingredients found in its three different proprietary blends, plus its other listed ingredients.

The Supplement Facts Panel for Herbalife V Plant-Based Greens Booster With a Veggies Plus Blend; Grass, Sprouts, and Algae Blend; Herbs, Spices, and Tea Blend; and Additional Ingredients

Veggies Plus Blend

The Veggies Plus Blend features a certified organic, non-GMO blend of vegetables and fruits often seen in greens powders, like apple, sweet potato, moringa leaf, carrot, kale, mango, plus these interesting additions:

  • Acacia, which is a great source of fiber
  • Artichoke extract for fiber and antioxidants
  • Pomegranate extract to provide essential nutrients, like Vitamin C, potassium, and folate

However, these ingredients only total 5.8 g, while brands like Live it Up Super Greens (7g) have far more vegetables per serving.

Grass, Sprouts, and Algae Blend

The proprietary blend includes the following certified organic, vegan ingredients:

  • Barley grass juice for delivering antioxidants and fiber
  • Spirulina and chlorella, nutrient-rich algae that contains powerful antioxidants and amino acids (but it’s unclear if the chlorella has a broken cell wall for bioavailability)
  • Wheat grass juice, which may support immune and digestive health
  • Amaranth and quinoa sprouts, gluten-free grains that provide protein, fiber, and other important nutrients

Products with barley grass are generally considered gluten free if the amount of barley grass included is below a certain threshold, but consumers should take note that this blend doesn’t state how much of this ingredient is included, nor do they claim to be gluten-free (so we much assume they aren’t). I would advise individuals who are sensitive to gluten to choose another greens powder like Live it Up Super Greens, which is gluten free.

Herbs, Spices, and Tea Blend

Herbalife’s Herbs, Spices, and Tea Blend includes turmeric, milk thistle, and ashwagandha, plant-based adaptogens that can help regulate the body. To start seeing the benefits of ashwagandha, though, studies show that a daily dose should be between 500 and 600 mg. Each serving of Herbalife Greens includes 0.4 g (400 milligrams) of the entire Herbs, Spices, and Tea Blend with six other ingredients, so I believe that ashwagandha is underdosed.

Did You Know? Ashwagandha is a powerful superfood that may help counteract the effects of stress and anxiety.

This blend also includes green tea extract, which may affect caffeine-sensitive clients. A cup of green tea can have anywhere from 30 to 50 milligrams of caffeine, so it’s perfectly plausible that Herbalife V Plant-Based Greens contains some amount of caffeine per serving (we just don’t know the quantity).

Additional Ingredients

Herbalife V Plant-Based Greens Booster lists four other ingredients:

  • Organic isomalto-oligosaccharide (from pea starch), a form of dietary fiber that has been shown to help with digestive issues and maintain the gut’s microbiome
  • Organic natural flavor
  • Rebaudioside A (from organic stevia leaf extract)
  • Bacillus coagulans, a dairy-free probiotic

The Plant-Based Greens Booster doesn’t include any digestive enzymes, which can help to break down food, and it only contains the bare minimum of probiotics (1 billion CFUs). This probably isn’t a big deal considering that the product doesn’t market itself as a digestion aid, but I’d recommend consumers look for a greens powder with probiotics between 3 and 7 billion CFUs (maximum 10B) for gut health support.

Dietitian Tip: Rebaudioside A, which is found in the stevia plant, can be 100 to 300 times sweeter than sucrose. If you’re sensitive to overly sweet flavors, consider looking for super greens powders that use a different natural sweetener.

Herbalife Greens Quality and Safety

Ingredients for Herbalife V Plant-Based Greens Booster are sourced from suppliers that meet its stringent quality standards, and the company implements ingredient and product testing both internally and externally in labs. Its manufacturing sites comply with international occupational health and safety standards set by ISO 45001, and its labs are accredited through ISO 17025.

As I mentioned above, gluten-free is notably absent from this green powder’s packaging. Still, Herbalife V Plant-Based Greens Booster carries four certifications:

  1. USDA Organic
  2. Vegan & Plant-based from Food Chain ID
  3. Non-GMO Project Verified
  4. Kosher

Herbalife Greens Cost Analysis

Because Herbalife operates as an MLM business, customers can only unlock pricing for its products by connecting with an Herbalife independent distributor.

In hopes of finding more info about the cost, I came across a distributor’s online platform, which sells a 20-serving package of Plant-Based Greens Booster for $58.20 ($2.91 per serving). This is quite expensive, especially given that a package only lasts 20 days. To get through an entire month, you’d need to purchase two packages, which comes out to $87.30 for 30 days.

There is a lack of transparency for people who want to have all the information at their fingertips before adding a wellness product into their diet—and their budget. That’s where Live it Up Super Greens fits the bill. At only $1.99 per serving (or $1.33 with the subscription price) and a full month’s supply in each package, our greens powder pricing is budget-friendly and transparent.

Herbalife Greens Taste Review

The general consensus among Herbalife V Plant-Based Greens Booster reviews is that the greens booster aroma and flavor are earthy, with one person saying that it literally “tastes like greens.” One reviewer likes that it tastes light and fresh, while another calls it “delicious.” (I’m taking even the positive reviews with a grain of salt, as many of them seem to be from Herbalife independent distributors.)

However, one TikTok reviewer deems the greens powder “not the best,” saying that they will mix it with juice next time. A couple of people, like this one, took a similar approach by mixing in one of Herbalife’s flavored concentrates with the booster to enhance the taste. While there’s nothing wrong with mixing in a supplement with a preferred drink, I do find it concerning that additional products may be necessary to make this palatable, especially those that may have added sugars.

I’ll always opt for a supplement that is lovely to drink on its own. That’s one reason why people choose Live it Up Super Greens—because a greens powder can come chock-full of nutrients while also serving up a refreshing flavor.

Why I Choose Live it Up Super Greens Instead

Live it Up Super Greens Product Package With Featured on Forbes 2025 Label

Herbalife V Plant-Based Greens Booster is certainly packed full of good-for-you fruits, vegetables, herbs, algae, spices, sprouts, and grasses, some of which have adaptogenic qualities, digestive aids, and more. But I still choose Live it Up Super Greens because of concentrated doses of organic vegetables and our full transparency of the amounts of vitamins and minerals in each serving—something that Herbalife Greens Booster severely lacks. Plus, our super greens powder is caffeine- and gluten-free and comes in two easy-to-drink flavors.

Finally, I just can’t get behind the direct-selling structure of the company, as I believe that supplements should be accessible, cost transparent, and convenient to buy. This is another area where Live it Up Super Greens shines. There’s no going through an independent distributor; instead, our customers have all the pricing information at their fingertips, so they can make the most informed decision about their health and wellness needs. And with Live it Up’s money-back guarantee, there’s no risk in trying for yourself!

Herbalife Greens FAQs

Find out more about Herbalife’s greens powder through frequently asked questions.

Is Herbalife really worth it?

Herbalife may or may not be worth it depending on your needs and budget. While the V Plant-Based Greens Booster is a great source of nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables and contains some digestion aids, the product is expensive, and there is no convenient way to purchase it. Instead I’d recommend Live it Up Super Greens as an easily-accessible greens powder with natural superfoods and digestion support, no strings attached.

What are Herbalife side effects?

Though Herbalife claims there are “no side effects related to Herbalife products,” as a dietitian, I find this to be a big red flag. All dietary supplements, regardless of their formulation, may have some degree of side effects for some people, whether that’s digestive discomfort, interference with prescription medication, sluggishness, or potential allergic reactions.

Though greens powder side effects are rare, they’re still possible, and I believe Herbalife’s focus on technicalities is an attempt not to “look bad,” rather than being honest about what consumers may experience from taking Herbalife Greens Booster. If you have any concerns about the powder or its ingredients, talk to your healthcare provider about what’s right for you.

Is Herbalife good or bad for health?

Based on the ingredients list, Herbalife V Plant-Based Greens Booster is likely good for your health, as it contains USDA certified Organic, non-GMO superfoods. While it’s a great option for ensuring that you get your daily dose of greens, the ingredients list only specifies the amounts of each proprietary blend, so the actual amount of each ingredient—and therefore its effectiveness—is a mystery.

What is the lawsuit against Herbalife?

Herbalife is not currently in a lawsuit, but it was sued by the Federal Trade Commission in 2016 for allegedly deceiving members about how much money they could earn by selling its products. Herbalife settled for $200 million and agreed to restructure the business—from one that paid people based on how many individuals they recruited to one that pays based on how much product is sold.

Can I buy Herbalife products without a membership?

Herbalife is a multilevel marketing company, so there are two ways to buy Herbalife products: as an independent distributor or as a customer of an independent distributor. There is no convenient way for customers to buy Herbalife goods in stores or online.

Can I drink Herbalife every day?

Herbalife recommends drinking its V Plant-Based Greens Booster once daily as a way to add fruits and vegetables to your diet. But it’s important to ensure that you’re also getting nutrients from whole foods as much as possible.
