As a dietitian who has worked in the greens supplement industry for the last few years, I was absolutely astounded to hear that AG1 came out with a gummy. You mean to tell me that the company who strives for excellence and purity above all else made a candy out of their prized greens? Of course my interests were piqued.
On surface level, AG1 Essentials Gummies are exactly as you’d expect: a gummy-fied multivitamin with added fiber and greens. Plus added sugar, though less than I expected, but we’ll get into that later.
Bottom line: As a replacement for AG1 (and other powdered greens), definitely no. As a competitor in the greens gummy space? They look pretty darn good. Do I think Live it Up Super Greens is the better choice? Absolutely.

Bottom Line: Are AG1 Essentials Gummies Worth a Try?
AG1 Essentials Gummies hit all the primary greens gummies targets: Added fiber, added greens, added vitamins and minerals. With that said, it’s not nearly as complete as its powdered predecessor, it lacks probiotics, and it has added sugar. I’ll choose Live it Up Super Greens over both every day for organic superfoods, 3 cups veggies per scoop, and powerful probiotics.

What Is AG1?
AG1 was founded more than a decade ago, with their greens (currently AG1 Next Gen) as the flagship product. Within the last few years they’ve expanded their lineup to include a sleep aid called AGZ, a few targeted supplements such as omega-3s and vitamin D3, and an “enhanced” greens product called AG1 Pro that targets athletes even more directly.
- 21 added vitamins and minerals
- 5 grams fiber
- More affordable than AG1 Next Gen
- Greens and fruit blend that includes adaptogens
- NSF Certified for Sport and third-party tested
- Non-GMO, dairy-free, gluten-free, egg-free, peanut-free, vegan, and free of artificial sweeteners
- 8 gummies per day (could be seen as a benefit if you enjoy the flavor)
- No probiotics
- 4 grams added sugar
- Less greens per serving as compared to the powder
- Only 6 organic ingredients (out 50)
AG1 Essentials Gummies Purported Benefits
AG1 Essentials Gummies are a simplified version of AG1 Next Gen, which means they also have streamlined purported benefits. With fewer ingredients and less room to fit them (which we’ll talk about later), AG1 had to truly focus the product’s ingredients to help reach these health goals. Let’s see if they accomplished this objective.
Benefit #1: Fills Common Nutrient Gaps
Right off the bat, I can confirm that this multivitamin will help fill some nutrient gaps. AG1 Essentials Gummies has 10 added vitamins and 11 added minerals, so if you are a bit low in any of these micronutrients, this product can help.
With that said, if your doctor has recommended a specific vitamin or mineral for you to take, be sure to double check the amount in these gummies, as amounts range from 222% to 2%. Plus, it does not contain all essential vitamins and minerals. As always, check with your primary care physician before starting any new supplements.
Benefit #2: Boost Energy Levels
The B vitamins are particularly important for energy production. These vitamins help convert the food we eat into energy our cells can use. AG1 Essentials Gummies contain between 75-152% of your daily recommended intake for these B vitamins, so I accept their claim for energy.
The gummies contain 16 grams of carbohydrates, the most important macronutrient for energy. They may also include a trace amount of caffeine from organic matcha leaf powder.
Benefit #3: Supports Immune Health
Vitamin C has long been known to help support the immune system. And for vitamin C to work, some studies have shown that we need to take in a specific amount each day for our body to reap the benefits. AG1 Essentials Gummies contains 200mg vitamin C, or 222% of your recommended daily intake, the highest of all their added vitamins and minerals.
Research has also indicated that not getting enough vitamin D may impact our immune function. With 20mcg, or 100% of your recommended vitamin D intake, AG1 Essentials Gummies provide enough of this nutrient to help support their immunity claim.
The fruit and vegetable complex in the gummies features antioxidant-rich superfoods known for aiding immune health, such as wheatgrass, beet root, ginger root, spirulina, spinach, and more.
My Hesitations
AG1 leans hard into their added vitamins and minerals to support their health claims. This is absolutely reasonable to do as vitamins have years of research behind them, but my hesitation has to do with the form these supplements are in: gummies.
- Nutrients in gummies are difficult to tame. With gummies enduring a high pH, high moisture level, and exposure to heat during production, vitamins are less likely to be stable. In fact, water-soluble vitamins, like vitamin C and the B vitamins, are highly susceptible to light, heat, and moisture, degrading faster when exposed to these elements. AG1 tests their gummies for accurate vitamin content at the time of manufacture.
- Additionally, gummies give up valuable formula space in every serving to make the gummy texture with pectin, water, gels, or carnauba wax. I prefer powders that can make room for more superfoods.
- Many greens gummies have added sugar, and AG1 Essentials Gummies are no exception.
Gummies are popular and may help deliver some nutrients, but they’re not my first choice supplement type. My preference is with powders and capsules.

Did You Know?
The American Dental Association recommends avoiding gummy supplements when you’re able because they are not the best choice when it comes to the health of your teeth.
AG1 Essentials Gummies Ingredient Breakdown
AG1 says they pack 50 vitamins, minerals, and whole food sourced ingredients into one serving of 8 gummies. Let’s take a closer look at these ingredients and what each contributes to the overall product.

Vitamins and Minerals
As mentioned previously, there are 21 added vitamins and minerals in AG1 Essentials Gummies. These play a large role in the gummies benefits and are a major contributor to the overall product.
The doses of the micronutrients are much more moderate than in the AG1 Next Gen greens powder, which I appreciate because I’m not a fan of supplements with doses higher than recommended unless explicitly advised by your doctor.
Vegetable, Fruit, and Prebiotic Complex
There are 28 ingredients in this 8.9-gram blend. With everything from elderberry, banana, raspberry, and passionfruit powder, to spirulina, chlorella, beet root, and spinach leaf powder - this blend seems to cover many superfood bases. It even has a bit of shiitake mushroom powder.
One thing to note is that the first ingredients in this blend are the prebiotic fibers, tapioca fiber and inulin (chicory root) powder. Because they’re listed first on the list, they’re in the largest quantities.
So if you’re looking for a decent dose of vegetables, you may want to stick with the AG1 Next Gen powder, or choose Live it Up Super Greens which has the equivalent of 3 cups of vegetables per scoop.
Other Ingredients
I would be remiss if I didn’t discuss the other ingredients in the AG1 Essentials Gummies. It’s in this section that we find all the ingredients that actually make this supplement taste and feel like a gummy. Which means while the list here is short, it likely makes up a good bulk of the total ingredients.
The gummy structure in this supplement is made up of cane sugar, pectin, and water. Sugar is dissolved with water and pectin to create a matrix that can hold all the other ingredients (fiber, powdered veggies, and added vitamins).
You’ll also find allulose in this list. Allulose is a naturally occurring sugar that only has 0.4 calories per gram versus cane sugar which has 4 calories per gram. This is how they’re able to only list 4 grams of added sugar; they’re using a natural sweetener that has less calories.

Dietitian Tip
Not only is it recommended to get 5 servings of vegetables and fruits per day, but also to try to consume 30 different plants per week for optimal gut and overall health. Even for me, this takes a lot of planning and work! Including a greens powder (with an adequate volume and diversity of plants) is one way to help increase the variety of plants in your daily diet.
AG1 Quality and Testing
AG1 has always been top tier when it comes to the quality of their products. AG1 partners with Light Labs, an independent ISO accredited lab, to verify the safety and integrity of its products.
AG1 Essentials Gummies are NSF Certified for Sport, which means not only is the product third-party tested, but it has also been tested for hundreds of substances banned in sports. The company’s website says the gummies are free of GMOs, gluten, dairy, lactose, egg, peanuts, animal byproducts, and 500+ herbicides and pesticides.
Live it Up Super Greens is also third-party tested and produced in a facility that is NSF GMP Certified.
AG1 Essentials Gummies Cost Analysis
While the gummies are more cost effective than AG1 Next Gen (roughly $1 less per serving with a monthly subscription), they’re still on the pricier side when it comes to greens supplements.
- One-time purchase, 30-day supply: $64 + $5 shipping ($2.30 per serving)
- Monthly subscription: $49 + free shipping ($1.63 per serving)
- 90-day supply subscription: $43 per month + free shipping ($1.43 per serving)
- This subscription is billed every 3 months at a rate of $129
AG1 also offers a 90-day money-back guarantee on your first order.
If you’re looking for more plants per serving, and all organic plants at that, at lower cost, Live it Up Super Greens costs $59.99 ($1.99 per serving) for a one-time purchase, and $39.99 ($1.33 per serving) for a monthly subscription.
AG1 Essentials Gummies Taste Review

These gummies come in one flavor called the Orchard Blend, which, according to the website, is supposed to taste like apples, strawberries, and citrus.
I personally don’t mind the flavor at all. They were smart to use a bit of sugar because this makes the gummy taste more like a “real candy” versus using all sugar substitutes that may result in an off taste. Of note, just like other greens gummy supplements, these are quite dense and firm, so they got stuck in my teeth. Just don’t expect a gummy bear experience.
Many customers enjoy their portability, saying they’re perfect in a rush or on-the-go. The gummies are extremely new, but so far, I’ve only found positive reviews on the flavor as well, with most customers saying they love the taste.
Why I Recommend Live it Up Super Greens

There are definitely limitations when it comes to creating a gummy supplement, including lack of space and nutrient stability, but AG1 Essentials Gummies pack in 5 grams of fiber, around 4grams of plants, and some vitamins and minerals into one serving. Not too shabby for a greens gummy! While it’s not equivalent to their crown jewel AG1 Next Gen, they did the best they could within the constraints of a gummy.
With that said, gummies are not at the top of my list when it comes to the forms of supplements I recommend to clients. I prefer supplements with more reliable greens potency and more bang for your buck.
That’s why I love Live it Up Super Greens. It contains 7.3 grams of organic superfoods (equivalent to 3 cups veggies), 3 grams of fiber, and no added sugar. But what truly sets it apart from AG1 Essentials Gummies is that it also contains 5 billion CFU probiotics along with digestive enzymes to help support gut health. Super Greens costs only $1.33 per serving with a subscription and includes free shipping and a money-back guarantee.
Vegan, all-natural, and coming in two delicious flavors (Original mint or Wild Berry), Live it Up Super Greens makes choosing healthier options an easy part of your routine! Remember that everyone’s health is different, so it’s important to find a supplement that matches your goals. And ultimately, supplements are no replacement for a diet full of fresh vegetables and fruits.
FAQs About AG1 Essentials Gummies
Still on the fence? Here are a few more questions and answers to help guide your supplement decision.
What’s the difference between Bloom gummies and AG1 gummies?
Bloom Supergreens Gummies and AG1 Essentials Gummies both aim to support energy and add vitamins and minerals to your daily routine. While they both have 5 grams of fiber, that tends to be the only similarity. Here are the differences:
| Bloom Supergreens Gummies | AG1 Essentials Gummies |
|---|---|---|
Fiber | 5 grams | 5 grams |
Vitamins and Minerals | 10 total | 21 total |
Probiotics | 2 billion CFU | 0 |
Added sugar | 3 grams | 5 grams |
Can I buy AG1 in stores?
AG1 products can be found in Ulta, Target, Costco, Vitamin Shoppe, and other stores. However, not all stores sell every product, so be sure to contact the store before going to ensure it sells the product you’re interested in.
Is AG1 actually healthy for you?
AG1 Next Gen can help replace multivitamins and add a variety of plants, extracts, and probiotics to your diet. AG1 Essentials Gummies can add a convenient daily dose of vitamins, minerals, plants, and fiber, though many of the micronutrients are at lower doses than Next Gen.
Always check with your doctor before starting a new supplement, and remember that these types of supplements should not replace a well-balanced diet with plenty of vegetables, fruits, healthy fats, whole grains, and protein.
What brand of superfood gummies are best?
While there aren’t many greens gummies on the market, it’s a quickly expanding sector. The best superfood gummies are ones with adequate fiber, a good dose of greens, and not too much added sugar.
- AG1 Essentials Gummies are a top notch choice when it comes to prebiotic fiber, vitamins and minerals, plus they contain the most greens per serving I’ve found.
- Bloom Supergreens Gummies have a delicious, light flavor along with a small amount of probiotics (2 billion CFU).
- Lemme Greens Gummies does not contain fiber, but it does contain a slightly higher volume of superfoods than Bloom gummies and also contains probiotics.
- Wondergreens Veggie Gummies is the best choice if you’re looking for probiotics (100 billion CFUs!) and even contains almost 2 grams of powdered green vegetables, with no added sugar.
But if you are truly looking to get more plants in your day, powdered greens are the way to go. Live it Up Super Greens contains the equivalent of 3 cups of veggies per serving (7.3 grams). Plus, all the superfoods are organic.
Do supergreens gummies work?
Depending on the brand, supergreens gummies are a good way to increase some of your vitamins and minerals. Some gummies will provide fiber while others provide some probiotics. Every brand will vary in terms of how much superfoods and greens they actually contain, so be sure to check the label. The same goes for how much added sugar each serving provides. As a dietitian, I prefer greens powders over gummies.
