An Honest Review of Groove Nutrition Greens

Our dietitian explored the trendy new Groove Greens and found it falls short on ingredients but asks for a high price tag.

An Honest Review of Groove Nutrition Greens
In this article:
In this article:

A simple goal guided me into the field of nutrition–helping people learn the food and nutrition tricks that help them feel healthy in their bodies! Since only 1 in 10 Americans get adequate fruits and veggies in their daily diet, I routinely recommend super greens powders to clients.

Naturally, I was intrigued when I came across the brightly colored, Gen Z-vibe of Groove Nutrition. This newcomer to the world of health supplements claims ā€œflavor is our jam.ā€ But is the company’s vibey, new greens powder worth it?Ā

In this article, I review everything from ingredients to manufacturing, price per serving, and whether flavor truly is the company’s ā€œjam.ā€ Plus, you’ll learn why Live it Up Super Greens is still my preferred greens powder for comprehensive nutrition, value, and taste. I’ll cover:

Bottom Line: Is Groove Greens Worth a Try?

What Groove Greens boasts in trendy branding and delicious, unique flavors, it lacks in affordability and comprehensive nutrition. Though I give kudos to Groove Nutrition for designing an aesthetic and clean product without any artificial colors, sweeteners, or additives, I continue to recommend Live it Up instead due to its balanced nutrient content, quality standards, and affordable price point.

What Is Groove Nutrition?

Paige, the company's co-founder and Chief Brand Officer, found herself in a rut. Having undergone multiple life transitions, she found herself just feeling ā€œoff.ā€ Cue Groove Nutrition, a supplement company designed to provide the average individual with the vitamins and minerals they need to feel good.

Athletic performance was never the primary goal; instead, Groove Greens and the company’s other nutritional products are simply designed to taste good and fuel ā€œhappy people out enjoying an active life.ā€ A single serving of the Groove Greens Dietary Supplement (1 scoop) contains:

  • 20 calories
  • 5g of carbohydrates
  • 2g of dietary fiber
  • Less than 1g of sugar and protein
  • 90mg of vitamin C
  • 20mcg of vitamin D
  • 10mcg of vitamin B12Ā

Groove Pros

  • High levels of vitamins B12, C, and D
  • Includes Alpha GPC to support focus
  • 3 unique flavors that are naturally sweetened with monk fruit
  • Contains 5 digestive enzymes and 2g of dietary fiber
  • Includes organic ingredients

Groove Cons

  • Exact amount of probiotics is unknown
  • On the expensive side
  • Free shipping only for orders of $99+
  • No information about GMP-certification
  • Only 7 total micronutrients
  • Contains tree nuts
Dietitian Tip: Vitamin B12 is critical for the production of red blood cells and overall wellness. Since B12 is only naturally found in animal products and meat, people on vegan or vegetarian diets should look for a greens powder that includes this vitamin on the nutrition facts panel.

Groove Greens Purported Benefits

As a nutritionist, I had to take a deep dive into Groove Green’s purported health benefits. Here’s what I found.

Groove Greens Purported Benefits

Benefit #1: Nutrient Support

Groove Greens claims to provide comprehensive nutritional support, but the Supplement Facts panel only lists 7 vitamins and minerals. I was impressed by the high quantities of vitamins B12, C, and D, which are all essential for supporting healthy bones, cognition, immunity, skin health, and nutrient absorption.

Though I appreciate the transparency on these essential vitamins, I was underwhelmed by the extremely low doses of the few minerals listed on the panel; for example, Groove Greens only offers 2% of your recommended daily potassium and iron. Compared to Live it Up Super Greens, which discloses the exact amounts of 22 vitamins and minerals, and has higher quantities of most of them, Groove Greens fell short for me on their claim to offer nutrient support.Ā

It is also important to know that the vitamins and minerals are synthetically added. Though this is not necessarily a negative, research is unclear on whether the body absorbs synthetic nutrients as well as it does whole food nutrients. If boosting your nutritional intake is one of your biggest concerns, I recommend opting for a supplement that gets most of its nutritional power from whole-food ingredients, such as Super Greens.

Benefit #2: Gut Health

For gut health, it is essential to get at least 1 billion CFU of probiotics and a blend of digestive enzymes. Together, these provide your gut with the bacteria to effectively process food and absorb nutrients. Groove Greens claims to support gut health, and I was happy to see it includes 100mg of five digestive enzymes: Amylase, Protease, Lipase, Cellulase, and Lactase.

However, Groove does not disclose the exact quantities of probiotics, making it unclear whether you’re getting the recommended minimum of 1 billion CFUs. It discloses that the formula contains 333mg of one strain, Bacillus coagulans. Though the inclusion of digestive enzymes and some probiotics is wonderful, I would not recommend Groove Greens to those looking for potent gut health support.Ā

Benefit #3: Immune Support

The one area where I was impressed is Groove’s potential for immune support. Containing a whopping 90mg of vitamin C (100% of the recommended daily value) and 20mcg of vitamin D (100% DV) plus a number of immune-supporting superfoods, Groove Greens definitely offers the essential vitamins needed for a strong immune system. I would have loved to know whether the formula contains selenium or zinc since both are also important for immunity. However, this information is not disclosed.Ā

Groove Greens Ingredient Breakdown

Next, I did a deep dive into the key ingredients of Groove Greens to better understand what you’re drinking with every scoop.

Groove Greens Ingredient Breakdown

Green Balance Alkalizing Blend

Groove Greens contains 2g of a proprietary ā€œGreen Balance Alkalizing Blend.ā€ This trademarked blend contains an impressive list of organic ingredients, such as organic barley grass, kale, and alfalfa.

According to the manufacturer, this blend of superfoods is designed to help the body maintain a level pH balance and sustained energy levels. Studies already show that a regular, balanced diet naturally balances the body’s pH levels, so I was disappointed to read this claim that sounds like it was plucked from a wellness influencer’s blog. However, that doesn’t discount the fact that many of the ingredients are likely to support overall nutrition.

As a dietitian, I was intrigued to see Astragalus P.E. in the ingredient list. This adaptogen is often believed to support immunity due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Since safe Astragalus doses vary depending on each individual’s needs, I was concerned to see that the exact amount of this ingredient was not listed. Though it is unlikely Groove Greens contains unsafe levels of Astragalus, some people may have a negative reaction to it. On the flipside, Groove may not even contain enough astragalus to be effective.

Alpha-Glycerylphosphorylcholine (Alpha-GPC)

Groove Greens highlights the use of alpha-GPC in the greens powder. This chemical is naturally made in the body from the nutrient choline and is known primarily as a caffeine replacement supplement. With its potential mood-boosting and focus-enhancing benefits, Groove Greens claims that this ingredient helps support energy and focus. However, it is important to know that this chemical may not be safe to take consecutively for more than 6 months and that it may also lead to unpleasant side effects, like diarrhea and nausea.

Additional IngredientsĀ

Groove’s formula also includes a Digestive Blend with enzymes and probiotics I discussed above, as well as various other ingredients. I was intrigued by the number of unique ingredient categories on the supplement panel. From nutrient-dense milled wheat grass to acacia, pomegranate juice, and beetroot juice, these ingredients likely fill the formula with antioxidants.Ā

Also of note is the use of coconut water. Though this is included in the form of freeze-dried powder, I was pleasantly surprised to see this hydrating ingredient since it can help replenish the body’s electrolytes and support overall wellness (though it does introduce tree nuts).Ā

Did You Know? Antioxidants help the body fight free radicals, which are microscopic molecules in the environment that may lead to cell damage. Berries, pomegranates, blue-green algae, and other foods are natural antioxidant sources that support your body in flushing out free radicals.

Groove Greens Quality and Safety

Groove Greens is third-party tested but does not disclose whether the manufacturing facilities are GMP-certified. Good Manufacturing Practices monitor consistent quality control and help ensure that what’s on the label is in your product.

That being said, the product is mostly organic and free of artificial sweeteners, colors, flavors, and fillers. Though it is gluten and dairy-free, Groove Greens is not tree nut-free. After trying Live it Up, which is free of tree nuts and transparent about its GMP-certified manufacturing policies, I was not overly wowed by Groove’s quality and safety claims.Ā

Groove Greens Cost Analysis

A one-time purchase of a 30-serving bag of Groove Greens is $59.99 ($2 per serving). Here are some other price factors worth noting:

  • A monthly subscription for the 30-serving bag saves you 10%, bringing the price to $53.99 ($1.80 per serving).
  • Shipping is only free for orders of $99+. All orders under $99, including monthly subscription, must pay for shipping.
  • Groove offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on all non-membership purchases. The product can only be returned if used within a reasonable limit (in other words, not all of it is used) and in good condition. Know that the shipping fee will not be reimbursed. You may also be subject to a restocking fee.Ā

It is important to consider the cost of shipping and any potential hidden fees, especially when shopping for daily supplements. Unlike Super Greens, which ships all orders for free and only charges $1.33 per serving with a subscription, Groove’s regular shipping cost significantly increases the cost you have to pay every month.Ā

Groove Greens Taste Review

Groove Greens is available in three unique flavors that customers seem to love: Meyer lemon blueberry, ginger peach, and wild strawberry kiwi. All flavors are naturally sweetened with Reb-M (derived from the stevia leaf plant) and monk fruit.

I tried the ginger peach flavor and was pleasantly surprised! The peach added a light sweetness that was balanced by the kick of ginger. Though the formula was still slightly too sweet for me, likely due to the use of Reb-M, the flavor was still enjoyable.

The other flavors get equally good reviews.Ā One person said, ā€œGroove Wild Strawberry Kiwi Greens are the best-tasting greens I've ever had!ā€

Another said, ā€œMeyer Lemon Blueberry...OOOMMMMGGGG!!!ā€

However, you may experience some sediment gathering at the bottom of the glass, according to a reviewer who said, ā€œIf I had any criticisms, it’d be that some of the powder will settle and not mix.ā€

Many reviewers mentioned including Groove in a smoothie or shake to cover up the powdery residue. I used my hand frother, which helped, but I experienced some grit as well.

Why I Recommend Live it Up Super Greens

Live it Up Super Greens

I will admit that Groove Greens pleasantly surprised me with its tasty flavors and use of hydrating coconut water. However, I still recommend Live it Up Super Greens over Groove for a few different reasons:

  1. Live it Up outperforms Groove in gut support with both digestive enzymes and transparent probiotics (5B CFU from four strains).
  2. While Groove offers 7 vitamins and minerals, Live it Up is more comprehensive with 22+ nutrients.
  3. The high cost of $2 per serving and the added cost of shipping make Groove Greens more of an aspirational product than a doable habit.
  4. Live it Up is fully nut-free, making it safe for those with tree-nut allergies.
  5. Super Greens is delicious and smooth without a gritty texture.
  6. Live it Up prioritizes quality and safety with third-party testing and GMP-certified manufacturing—all without sacrificing affordability, which will always make it one of my favorite products.Ā

Plus, Live it Up is all-natural, made with organic vegetables, and free from artificial additives, fillers, and sweeteners. Get your greens risk-free and try Live it Up today!

Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing the right super greens powder for you can feel like trying to solve a jigsaw puzzle—so many pieces to consider in order to find the one that meets your needs. Here are the answers to some commonly asked questions about Groove Nutrition and supergreen powders.Ā

What do nutritionists really think about powdered greens?

Most Americans don’t eat enough fruits and veggies which is why most nutritionists believe powdered greens are a great way to bridge this gap. Filled with dehydrated, powdered fruits and vegetables, powdered greens are a wonderful way to ensure you’re getting your essential nutrition. Of course, not all green powders are created equal, so it’s important to take a close look at their supplement facts and choose one that is transparent about its vitamin and mineral quantities and prioritizes high-quality ingredients and manufacturing.Ā

How healthy are Groove Greens?

Formulated by Groove Nutrition, this greens powder is filled with organic leafy greens and other superfoods to support your overall wellness. This blend also includes beetroot juice, pomegranate juice, coconut water, and wheat grass to boost the blend’s nutritional properties. Plus, with its high levels of vitamins C, D, and B12, Groove Greens is a healthy greens powder that may support immunity and energy. However, it only includes 7 total vitamins and minerals and includes tree nuts.Ā

What is the difference between AG1 and Groove Nutrition?

Popular Athletic Greens (AG1) and Groove Greens both offer nutrients in the scoop of dehydrated, powdered greens. Though AG1 provides more transparency into its vitamin and mineral content than Groove Greens, AG1’s excessive amount of certain vitamins makes the product unfit for the average person. Comparatively, Groove Greens has more balanced vitamin and mineral quantities.

Though both have their strengths and weaknesses, both products are pricey, making them an aspirational product for many. For the average person looking to improve their health, Live it Up Super Greens outperforms both products for quality, nutrition, and value.Ā

What are Groove Greens good for?

According to the manufacturer, Groove Greens is intended to support focus, energy levels, digestion, immunity, and overall wellness. Though, from a dietitian’s standpoint, the product is only likely to help with immunity and energy due to the high levels of vitamins C and D. Groove’s lack of transparency regarding the quantity of probiotics makes it hard to recommend Groove Greens for digestion and gut health.Ā

Which super greens powder is the best?

There are a lot of super greens powders on the market, with Bloom, AG1, and Zena Greens being some of the biggest names at the moment. However, Live it Up Super Greens is dietitian-recommended for its comprehensive ingredient list, transparent vitamin and mineral information, delicious flavor, and affordability. Though there seem to be newcomers every day, Live it Up consistently outperforms its competitors, offering the best blend for overall wellness, gut health, immune function, and energy maintenance.
