Groove Nutrition vs. Live it Up: A Dietitian Dives Deeper

After comparing it to Groove Nutrition’s Greens blend, Live it Up Super Greens still comes out on top for natural nutrition.

Groove Nutrition vs. Live it Up: A Dietitian Dives Deeper
In this article:
In this article:

I spend a lot of my time trying to find ways my clients can support a balanced, healthy diet by plugging any gaps in their nutritional intake. To do so, I often compare top super greens powders, looking at the ingredients, purported benefits, research, and even the cost and taste, to figure out which ones are the best.

In this analysis, I take a close look at Groove Nutrition Greens to see how it compares to my long-standing favorite Live it Up Super Greens. This relatively new brand has many positive attributes, especially the flavor, but ultimately falls short of the comprehensive, all-natural (and more affordable) Live it Up Super Greens.

4 Ways Live it Up Beats Groove on Greens

After thoroughly analyzing both products, these are the reasons why I believe Live it Up Super Greens is a better choice for greens powder than Groove Nutrition Greens;

1. Live it Up costs less

Live it Up Super Greens offers exceptional value for money, with daily servings costing as little as $1.33 for a monthly subscription (or even $1.16 if purchased on a six-monthly subscription basis). Compared to the $1.80 per serving of Groove Nutrition Greens on a subscription, this difference adds up.

Live it Up also offers free shipping on all orders, while Groove Nutrition offers it only on orders over $99. It’s also worth noting that the delivery and postage fees aren’t listed on Groove Nutrition’s website until the delivery address has been entered.

2. Live it Up outperforms with gut support

Studies have shown how important it is for your body and mind to have a healthy gut. While it’s great to see a probiotic and digestive enzyme blend included in Groove Nutrition’s Greens formula, the exact quantities are undisclosed, so it’s hard for me to recommend it for gut health.

It is recommended to include a daily amount of at least 1 billion CFU of probiotics, but more is preferable. Live it Up Super Greens contains 5 billion CFU of probiotics with three digestive enzymes in each serving to help your body break down food, absorb nutrients, and regulate digestion.

3. Live it Up offers a stronger nutritional profile

While I like the transparency of Groove Greens’ nutritional list, something I highly value in a greens brand, the actual figures are somewhat underwhelming. Yes, there are high quantities of vitamins C, B12, and D, which are important for immune support, healthy bones, energy levels, and nutrient absorption.

Still, there are only 7 micronutrients total in Groove Greens, so it’s hard to see how it could support whole-body nutrition. Additionally, Groove only offers 2% of the daily value of potassium and iron, alongside small doses of other minerals. Live it Up Super Greens has higher quantities of most of these and lists 22 essential nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

4. Live it Up is all-natural

As a dietitian, I always encourage my clients to get their vitamins, nutrients, and minerals from their daily diet as much as possible. When it’s not possible, it’s still important to get those nutritional building blocks from natural sources.

Live it Up doesn’t add any synthetic vitamins or minerals to its blend, and all of those listed are naturally occurring. Groove Nutrition, on the other hand, includes vitamins and minerals in synthetic form, including vitamin C as ascorbic acid, vitamin D as cholecalciferol, and vitamin B12 as methylcobalamin.

Groove Greens Overview

Groove Nutrition is a brand of health and nutritional supplements founded by Paige Brown and James McQueen, who wanted to make products “for any kind of body doing any kind of thing.” The brand offers a wide range of products, including whey protein isolate, hydration powders, pre-workout formulas, BCAAs formulas (Branched-chain amino acids), and the daily greens blend.

The Groove Nutrition Greens blend is a concentrated superfoods formula that has been designed to fill nutritional gaps in your diet. With a strong emphasis on flavors and trendy marketing, the brand promises to “Flip your switch. Turn on your power. Rev up your engine. Feed your groove.” It contains an all-organic blend, digestive enzymes, probiotics, and added vitamins for overall daily health.

Groove Ingredients

Groove Nutrition Greens includes key ingredients and blends, such as:

  • Groove Compound: This is a house blend that incorporates synthentic Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, and Vitamin C, as well as Alpha GPC and Himalayan salt, which the brand states “increases nutrient absorption and lowers blood pressure.”
  • Green Balance Alkalizing Blend: This includes a combined 2g of organic barley grass powder, organic kale powder, organic alfalfa grass powder, organic wheatgrass powder, organic oat grass powder, organic lemon juice powder, organic chlorella powder, and organic astragalus.
  • Organic coconut water powder, pomegranate juice powder, and beet root juice powder: Together these total 400mg per serving.
  • Digestive enzymes: A third-party blend by DigeZymeÂŽ of Amylase, Protease, Lipase, Cellulase, and Lactase.
  • Bacillus coagulans: A type of probiotic (unknown number of colony-forming units).
  • Alpha-Glycerylphosphorylcholine: This is used to help with cognitive performance, though its effectiveness remains an area of ongoing research.
Dietitian Tip: Bacillus coagulans may interfere with antibiotics and immunosuppressant medications. It’s advisable to discuss using supplements containing it with a healthcare professional first.

Groove Quality and Safety

I always point out to my clients that health supplements aren’t tested by the FDA and that it’s important to ensure any products they buy have been verified and adhere to strict manufacturing protocols.

Groove Nutrition states that all its products are third-party tested for identity, purity, strength, composition, and contaminants, which gets extra marks from me. However, the Groove Greens product doesn’t appear to be made in GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certified facilities.

Groove Purported Benefits

Let’s take a look at how Groove lives up to its alleged health benefits, from digestion and immunity to filling nutritional gaps.

  1. Nutritional Support: The Groove Greens blend includes an all-organic Green Balance Alkalizing Blend containing nutrient-dense ingredients like alfalfa, kale, barley grass, and chlorella. Vitamins A, C, and B12 are added as synthetic forms as part of the Groove Compound, which also includes Alpha-Glycerylphosphorylcholine (Alpha GPC). This is used to help with cognitive function, although its effectiveness remains an area of ongoing research.
  2. Gut Health: Groove Greens contains a third-party digestive enzyme blend containing 5 different enzymes, as well as one probiotic. While it states that there are 333mg of enzymes and 100mg of B. coagulans in one serving, the more relevant CFU measurement isn’t given, so it’s difficult to comment on its effectiveness for gut support.
  3. Immunity: I feel that clients would have benefited from a breakdown of ingredients and what purported health benefits they each offer, which is missing from Groove Nutrition’s website. However, the Green Balance Alkalizing Blend did impress me with its all-organic ingredients, which are high in antioxidants and vitamin C.

Live it Up Quality and Safety

As I’ve mentioned above, it’s so important for high-quality supplements to undergo stringent third-party testing to ensure that the products they are providing are of the highest quality. This is something that I hold Live it Up in high regard for, and one of the many reasons that I recommend it to clients.

Apart from being made with non-GMO, all-natural ingredients, which are dairy-free, gluten-free, nut-free, filler-free, and sugar-free, Live it Up Super Greens ensures that all its products are made in GMP-certified facilities and third-party tested.

Live it Up Purported Benefits

I have recommended Live it Up to my patients for several years now for many reasons, one of the main ones being the broad range of potential health benefits.

  1. Balanced Nutrition: Live it Up Super Greens can help plug nutritional deficits by providing 22 micronutrients and organic, natural ingredients. These include spirulina, burdock root, and nopal cactus, among many others.
  2. Digestive Support: Science shows that good digestion can have strong links to our mood and overall health. Live it Up Super Greens contains 5 billion CFU dairy-free probiotics, 3 digestive enzymes, and 3 grams of fiber to support gut health.
  3. Immune System Health: Ingredients such as antioxidant-rich leafy greens and blue-green algae help support the immune system, plus zinc, magnesium, and vitamins A and D.
  4. Energy Levels: Eschewing caffeine entirely, Live it Up Super Greens supports energy levels with B-vitamins including B1, B2, B3, B6, and B12. Iron (of which Live it Up Super Greens contains 34% DV) is also vital for providing energy.
Did You Know? B-vitamins work to keep you energized by converting the food you eat into glucose. It is this glucose which gives the body its energy.

Groove Nutrition customers are generally enthusiastic about the flavors of the Greens product, though there are comments about the texture being slightly gritty and leaving a sediment at the bottom of the glass.

“So delicious, we both look forward to drinking it.”
“If I had any criticisms, it’d be that some of the powder will settle and not mix.”

I also found an electric blender helped to get a smoother texture.

Live it Up’s customers report that the natural flavor and slightly sweet taste of Original and Wild Berries, combined with the smooth texture, make them easy and pleasant to drink.

“The berry flavor is spectacular. My kids and I drink this every day, and they always remind me if I forget.”

Go for Green with Live it Up

Live it Up Supergreens

There are many greens on the market, and no two will work the same way for everyone. At the end of the day, your dietary goals, taste preferences, and budget will play a role in helping you decide which is best for you.

When reviewing Groove Nutrition’s Greens and Live it Up’s Super Greens, I’ve analyzed all of the above plus each one’s nutritional benefits, and ultimately, Live it Up is my preferred choice.

While Groove Greens has a lot going for it with trendy, tasty flavors, an all-organic Green Balance Alkalizing Blend, and probiotics and digestive enzymes, it falls short for me in several ways:

  • Lack of transparency with regards the digestive enzyme and probiotic quantities
  • Synthetic vitamins
  • Limited manufacturing information

In comparison, Live it Up Super Greens delivers a well-balanced, organic vegetable formula with clear probiotic quantities, detailed information on third-party testing and production methods, as well as vitamins, minerals, and nutrients all derived from natural ingredients. It so happens to be considerably cheaper than Groove Greens and tasty too, sealing the deal on why I recommend it to my clients.

FAQs about Groove Greens vs. Live it Up

Check out some FAQs below to learn more.

What is Groove Greens good for?

Groove Greens is a greens supplement powder that is used to help increase your nutritional intake. The brand claims that it supports digestion, boosts immunity, and fills your nutritional gaps with a single daily dose. While it has many positive attributes, it’s important to note that it should not replace eating a balanced, healthy diet of fresh produce.

Does Groove Greens taste good?

With three flavors (Meyer lemon blueberry, ginger peach, and wild strawberry kiwi), Groove Greens gets good reviews for its delicately sweet greens powder taste. However, some people find the texture slightly powdery and that it leaves a sediment.

Which is the best daily greens powder?

With many greens powders on the market, it can be difficult to know which is the best one for you. Opt for a powdered greens blend that includes all-natural, organic ingredients, such as Live it Up Super Greens, and offers transparent nutritional information, probiotics, digestive enzymes, and certified manufacturing.

Do dietitians recommend super greens powders?

In short, yes! While a balanced, healthy diet including fresh fruit and vegetables should be your main goal alongside an active lifestyle, powdered greens supplements can help plug any nutritional gaps in your diet if you struggle to eat enough during the day.
