I love a drink that feels like a special occasion, with the nice glass, the fresh garnish, and that first cold sip at the end of a long day. But the drink doesn’t have to contain alcohol for it to be enjoyable!

I’m a registered dietitian, and many of my clients seek that same ritual without the alcohol. That’s why I’m excited to share five N/A electrolyte mocktail recipes that make hydration something to look forward to.

Each recipe starts with one scoop of Live it Up Vital Minerals, an electrolyte powder with coconut water and sea salt. These recipes take about five minutes to make, have no added sugar, and provide your body with fluids, along with the sodium and potassium that help you retain them.

Whether you’re hosting friends, cooling down after a workout, looking for an alcohol-free alternative, or simply tired of drinking plain water, check out these refreshing mocktails.

What Makes These Mocktails Hydrating?

Hydration is determined by how much fluid you consume and how well your body retains it. And electrolytes play an important role in helping your body retain those fluids. Electrolytes are minerals, such as sodium, magnesium, and potassium, that carry an electric charge and help balance the water in your body while supporting your muscles.

On an ordinary day, drinking plain water may be enough to keep you hydrated. However, after a sweaty workout or a long afternoon in the heat, you lose electrolytes along with fluids, making it harder to stay hydrated.

The good news is that sports medicine guidelines note that a drink with electrolytes can have an edge over water alone, meaning these electrolyte mocktails may be the key to replenishing lost fluids and helping you stay hydrated.

Here’s why these electrolyte-rich mocktails are great to add to your routine:

  • Flavor: Fresh fruit, citrus, and herbs give each drink the layered complexity of a cocktail.
  • Hydration: Each glass delivers at least 8 ounces of fluid, plus sodium and potassium, setting it apart from a typical juice-based mocktail.
  • No added sugar: The sweetness comes naturally from Live it Up’s electrolytes and real fruit, so you can skip the syrups most mocktail recipes call for.
  • Occasion-friendly: These drinks look elevated enough for a dinner party, but they’re simple enough to make on a weeknight when you want something nicer than plain water.

Sparkling water hydrates just as well as still water. In a randomized trial comparing 13 different drinks, researchers found no differences among them, so you can enjoy the bubbles while hydrating your body!

Non-Alcoholic Hydration Drinks With Electrolytes: Ingredients and Instructions

I created a mocktail for each Vital Minerals flavor, so you can start with whichever one you already have in your pantry. Each recipe yields one serving and takes only about five minutes to prepare.

Always dissolve the powder in still water before you add anything fizzy. If you stir it straight into sparkling water or ginger beer, the drink will foam over, and you’ll lose the bubbles you wanted.

1. Watermelon Margarita

This one tastes like summer in a glass, and the fresh watermelon juice easily makes it the most refreshing recipe on this list.

Ingredients

  • 1 scoop Live it Up Vital Minerals, Watermelon
  • 4 ounces cold still water
  • 4 ounces plain sparkling water
  • 1 cup cubed seedless watermelon
  • 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice (about half a lime)
  • Ice
  • Lime wheel and mint sprig for garnish

Instructions

  1. Blend the watermelon until smooth, then strain it through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the pulp. You should have about 4 ounces of juice.
  2. In a cocktail shaker or glass, combine Vital Minerals with the still water. Stir until the powder is completely dissolved.
  3. Add the watermelon juice, lime juice, and mint. Gently press the mint with a spoon to release its oils without tearing the leaves.
  4. Fill a tall glass with ice and strain the mixture over it.
  5. Top with sparkling water, stir once, and garnish with a lime wheel and mint sprig.

Skip the salt rim on your margarita because one scoop of Vital Minerals already provides 510 mg of sodium. The lime wheel gives you the margarita look without the extra salt.

2. Pomegranate Cosmopolitan

This tart, ruby red concoction, served in a chilled glass, is what I reach for when I want something that feels a little dressed up.

Ingredients

  • 1 scoop Live it Up Vital Minerals, Pomegranate Mango
  • 6 ounces cold still water
  • 2 ounces unsweetened 100% pomegranate juice
  • 1/2 ounce fresh orange juice (stands in for the orange liqueur)
  • Ice
  • Orange twist for garnish

Instructions

  1. Chill a martini glass or large coupe in the freezer for 5 minutes. A cold glass keeps the drink crisp, since it’s served without ice.
  2. In a cocktail shaker, combine Vital Minerals with the still water. Stir until dissolved.
  3. Add the pomegranate juice, lime juice, and orange juice.
  4. Fill the shaker with ice and shake for 15 seconds, until the outside feels very cold.
  5. Strain into the chilled glass. Hold the orange twist over the drink, give it a firm squeeze to release the oils, and drop it in as garnish.

3. N/A Moscow Mule

Ginger and lime are a classic pairing, and the Lemon Lime flavor fits right in. If you like your mule with a kick, don’t skip the fresh ginger.

Ingredients

  • 1 scoop Live it Up Vital Minerals, Lemon Lime
  • 4 ounces cold still water
  • 4 ounces zero-sugar ginger beer, chilled
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice (about 1 lime)
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated ginger (optional, for extra kick)
  • Ice
  • Lime wheel for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a copper mug or rocks glass, combine Vital Minerals with the still water. Stir until dissolved.
  2. Add the lime juice and optional grated ginger, then stir well.
  3. Fill the mug with ice.
  4. Top with the ginger beer and stir gently, just once, to keep the fizz.
  5. Garnish with a lime wheel.

4. Strawberry Basil Lemonade Smash

Fresh basil might sound surprising here, but it brings out the sweetness of the strawberries and makes this drink taste far more complex than the effort involved.

Ingredients

  • 1 scoop Live it Up Vital Minerals, Strawberry Lemonade
  • 4 ounces cold still water
  • 4 ounces plain sparkling water
  • 3 ripe strawberries, hulled and quartered
  • 3 fresh basil leaves
  • 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
  • Ice
  • Strawberry slice and basil leaf for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a cocktail shaker, muddle the strawberries and basil until the berries are broken down and juicy.
  2. Add the lemon juice, still water, and Vital Minerals. Stir until dissolved.
  3. Add a handful of ice and shake for 10 seconds.
  4. Strain into a glass over fresh ice. If you prefer a more earthy drink with bits of fruit, pour it in unstrained.
  5. Top with sparkling water and garnish with a strawberry slice and basil leaf.

5. Piña Colada

This creamy coconut mocktail is the closest thing to a vacation you can make in a blender, and the frozen pineapple gives it that thick, frosty texture without any added sugar.

Ingredients

  • 1 scoop Live it Up Vital Minerals, Pineapple Coconut
  • 6 ounces cold still water
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple chunks
  • 2 ounces unsweetened light coconut milk
  • 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 cup ice
  • Pineapple wedge for garnish

Instructions

  1. Add the water and Vital Minerals to a blender and pulse once to dissolve the powder.
  2. Add the frozen pineapple, coconut milk, lime juice, and ice.
  3. Blend on high for 30 to 45 seconds, until the mixture is smooth and frosty.
  4. Pour into a tall glass.
  5. Garnish with a pineapple wedge and serve right away, while it’s still thick.

If you prefer to skip the blender, you can make a simpler piña colada mocktail with coconut water instead. Stir one scoop of electrolyte powder into 4 ounces of unsweetened coconut water and 4 ounces of 100% pineapple juice, then pour it over ice.

Functional Benefits from a Dietitian

Let’s talk about what makes these mocktails more than a tasty drink in a pretty glass. Each ingredient brings something useful to your drink.

Natural Electrolytes

Vital Minerals features coconut water powder and sea salt, and one scoop provides 510 mg of sodium, 300 mg of potassium, 40 mg of calcium, and 68 mg of vitamin C. Sodium is the mineral doing a lot of the hydration work, as it helps your body retain the fluid you drink. For context, 510 mg is about 22% of the 2,300 mg daily sodium limit, so I’d count it toward your daily total.

Fresh Fruit

All five recipes use real fruit or 100% juice, which adds potassium and vitamin C on top of what the electrolyte powder provides. Watermelon is a great example of an electrolyte-rich food, since it’s mostly water and contains a small amount of potassium. You also get the vibrant natural color, aroma, and texture that make a drink feel special, which no flavored syrup can match.

No Added Sugar

Many mocktail recipes rely on simple syrup, grenadine, or sweetened mixers, so the sugar content adds up quickly. These mocktails get their sweetness from whole fruit, 100% juice, and the natural sweetness in Vital Minerals, with no artificial sweeteners or added sugar. That’s also why I call for unsweetened juice, unsweetened coconut milk, and zero-sugar ginger beer. Because fruit juice does contain natural sugar, I’ve kept it to 2 to 4 ounces per glass.

Alcohol-Free

Some people are sober curious or simply looking for a lighter drink option to keep in their rotation, so these alcohol-free beverages are the perfect solution. There’s also a case for hydration with these mocktails. In one small study of a group of men, beer with 4% alcohol led to more fluid loss than alcohol-free beer. The difference was modest, but if your goal is to feel hydrated and refreshed, a zero-proof drink is the better choice.

Tips for Success

The best part about these recipes is how simple and adaptable they are. Once you’ve made one or two, you’ll notice they all follow the same pattern: dissolve the powder, add fruit and citrus, pour over ice, and top with something fizzy.

Here are some additional recommendations for success.

Customize Your Mocktail

Experiment and have fun with it! Try these variations:

  • Add more potassium: Swap the sparkling water for unsweetened coconut water. You’ll lose the bubbles but gain a subtle sweetness with added potassium.
  • Change the herbs: Trade mint for basil, or add a ribbon of cucumber for a spa-style drink.
  • Turn up the spice: Use zero-sugar ginger beer in place of sparkling water in any of these recipes for a warmer, spicier finish.
  • Mind the ratio: Keep 8 to 12 ounces of liquid per scoop of electrolytes so the drink doesn’t taste too salty.

Make a Pitcher

These recipes scale up easily for a crowd. Multiply the recipe by six and mix everything except the sparkling water in a pitcher. When you’re ready to serve, pour the mixture over ice and top each glass with sparkling water so every drink stays fizzy.

Storage Recommendations

These mocktails are best enjoyed fresh, when the flavors are bright, and the mixture is still cold. You can prepare the base ahead of time, without ice or sparkling water, and store it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Since the fruit will settle, give it a little stir before serving.

The blended Piña Colada is the one exception—it should be served right away.

Adding Live it Up Vital Minerals to a mocktail turns a simple drink into one that helps you hydrate. It’s also one of the easiest ways I know to get more electrolytes because you can easily add them into drinks you already enjoy.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hydration Mocktails

Check out the answers to some frequently asked questions below.

What is an electrolyte mocktail?

An electrolyte mocktail is a non-alcoholic mixed drink made with a source of electrolytes, such as an electrolyte powder or coconut water, in place of a spirit. Fresh juice, citrus, herbs, and still or sparkling water round it out. You get the look and flavor of a cocktail, along with sodium and potassium, without the alcohol.

Are electrolyte mocktails actually hydrating?

Yes, electrolyte mocktails are hydrating. Each recipe here provides at least 8 ounces of fluid, with sodium to help your body retain it and potassium to help the fluid move through your cells. Plain water still hydrates well on most days, so think of a hydrating mocktail as a more enjoyable way to reach your fluid goals, especially when you’ve worked out or been exposed to high temperatures.

Can I drink an electrolyte mocktail every day?

For most healthy adults, one hydrating mocktail a day is perfectly reasonable. Each of these recipes contains about 510 mg of sodium per serving, which is roughly 22% of the daily limit, so keep that in mind alongside the rest of your meals. If you have a medical condition or are taking medications, it’s always best to speak with a healthcare provider before starting any new supplement.

Does sparkling water hydrate as well as still water?

It does. In a randomized trial comparing 13 different drinks and their impact on hydration, sparkling water kept people just as hydrated as still water over four hours. You can use either one in these recipes, although I find the bubbles make a mocktail feel much more like the real thing.
