As a dietitian, I seek out nutrient-rich foods and supplements that are easy for clients to adopt while positively impacting their health. Greens powders can fill that role for many people, being a simple supplement to incorporate into your daily diet and offering a convenient way to consume additional fruits and veggies.
Amazing Grass Green Superfood purports to do just that at an attractive price tag. However, I’ve researched many greens powders and know that there are major differences in the nutritional content of different brands. I set out to do an Amazing Grass greens blend review so I could dig into its formula and health claims and see how it stacks up to popular superfood supplements.
After thoroughly researching Amazing Grass Green Superfood, I think it has a strong formula and some clear potential. However, it leaves enough gaps for me to understand why it’s priced so low compared to a more robust formula like Live it Up Super Greens, which I would still recommend to my clients instead.

Is Amazing Grass Worth a Try?
Although Amazing Grass Green Superfood offers potential nutritional benefits at a reasonable cost, I believe the savings aren’t worthwhile since the brand cuts corners on gut health support and taste. While there are mixed reviews on flavor, I find that Amazing Grass Green Superfood is not refreshing to drink compared to Live it Up, which has a naturally sweet flavor and is made with a blend of organic vegetables.
What Is Amazing Grass Greens Blend?
Amazing Grass Green Superfood is a green superfood supplement made with a blend of organic ingredients including greens and cereal grasses like barley grass and spirulina, plant fibers and extracts, and probiotics.
It's the flagship greens powder of the Amazing Grass brand, which was started by Brandon Bert and Todd Habermehl in 2002. Bert comes from a family of Kansas farmers, and the brand emphasizes that its barley grass, wheat grass, spirulina, and other organic greens are grown outdoors on U.S. family farms where their roots are allowed to grow deeper than its competitors to absorb more nutrients.
The brand's products have appeared in many social media videos, with users praising the energy and health they feel it provides.
Amazing Grass Pros
- Organic and non-GMO ingredients
- Sugar-free, gluten-free, and free from artificial sweeteners
- Relatively affordable at less than $1 per serving
- Available in four different container sizes
- Contains probiotics
- 60-day satisfaction guarantee
- Available in four different flavors
Amazing Grass Cons
- Low dose of probiotics and only one strain
- No digestive enzymes
- Only contains 7 total vitamins and minerals
- Doesn't always dissolve well and maintains a gritty texture
- Mixed reviews of taste
- Uses the food additive silica as an anti-caking agent
Amazing Grass Purported Benefits
Amazing Grass makes several claims about the overall health benefits provided by its Green Superfood pertaining to vitality, energy, immunity, and a healthy gut. I examined the formula to determine the credibility of each health claim.

Benefit #1: Vitality
A diet that includes whole fruits and veggies can help support your body's energy levels through vitamins and minerals, such as iron, magnesium, B vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin D, and vitamin K. This is probably the basis of Amazing Grass's claim that its Green Superfood provides natural energy and feelings of health and revitalization.
Of these nutrients, however, the label only mentions iron and vitamins C and K. The green tea extract in its proprietary antioxidant blend could hint at a small caffeine content but likely isn’t present in amounts that would provide noticeable energy. Those who are sensitive to caffeine should be aware of these trace amounts.
Benefit #2: Immunity
Healthy immune function requires proper hydration, sleep, exercise, and a balanced diet. Amazing Grass includes vitamin K and 100% of your daily recommended vitamin C per serving. Both of these vitamins offer essential immune support along with the powder's antioxidant content, so this claim checks out. Still, I would’ve liked to see both vitamin B6 and zinc on the Amazing Grass list, which are known for aiding immune resilience.
Benefit #3: Gut Health
Amazing Grass’s blend of organic greens, fruits, and vegetables, 620mg of fiber, and 1 billion CFU of probiotics is purported to help users maintain a healthy gut microbiome and regulate their digestion.
These are all quality ingredients that support digestion, and their presence backs Amazing Grass's claim. However, Bacillus subtilis, the probiotic used in Amazing Green’s formula, has not been shown to aid digestive function in the same way that other commercially available probiotics have. It’s worth questioning why this particular probiotic was chosen.
Also of note is that 1 billion CFU is definitely on the low side for probiotic content. While it’s still at least something, I typically recommend at least 5 billion to my clients. In my opinion, Amazing Grass is doing the bare minimum here for gut health.
It’s also questionable whether Amazing Grass Green Superfood contains any digestive enzymes. They’re mentioned in the Amazon listing, but no such enzymes are listed in the ingredients for the product. While there may be some gut health support on offer here, I have doubts about just how much.
Amazing Grass Ingredient Breakdown
Organic greens are the stars of the Amazing Grass ingredients list, but several key players help it stand out.

Green Food Blend
The bulk of the Amazing Grass Green Superfood formula is a 5.4-gram blend of organic, non-GMO grasses and greens, such as wheat grass, barley grass, alfalfa grass, spinach, chlorella, and spirulina. Spirulina is an antioxidant that may help maintain a healthy immune system and control inflammation, and many of these other greens are purported to have similar properties.
Fiber Blend
Organic flax seed and apple pectin are nutrient-rich prebiotic fibers that might aid in digestion. They also offer other nutrients shown to be important to overall wellness. Unfortunately, Amazing Grass also contains another prebiotic fiber called inulin (chicory root fiber), which has been linked to gastrointestinal distress in some people.
Probiotics
Amazing Grass Green Superfood contains just 1B CFU of the probiotic Bacillus subtilis, which may be associated with immune health but has not been shown to have significant positive impacts on digestion or gut health. There are no digestive enzymes listed in the ingredients, and 1B CFU is quite low as far as probiotic content goes. As a dietitian, it seems to me like this blend offers less gut health support than most greens powders on the market.
Antioxidant Blend
Amazing Grass Green Superfood features a 1.4-gram “antioxidant blend,” including superfoods like:
- Acerola cherry extract
- Organic acai berry
- Organic beet root
- Green tea leaf extract
- Organic maca root
Maca is a feature of traditional Peruvian medicine and has been shown to have potential as an adaptogen, meaning it may assist with the body's ability to deal with stress. However, it would likely need to be present in a larger amount than just one ingredient in 1.4 grams to have an impact.
It’s of note that Amazing Grass also includes silica in its ingredient list, an anti-caking agent that I consider to be a filler. I would’ve preferred to see more grams of the Antioxidant Blend than have space in the formula taken up by a filler.
Amazing Grass Quality and Safety
All Amazing Grass products are manufactured in the U.S. with ingredients sourced from FDA-registered facilities. I was pleased to see many organic ingredients on the Supplement Facts panel, which are free of harmful pesticides.
The gluten content of the grasses used is confirmed by third-party testing. Unlike Live it Up, Amazing Grass does not specify if its manufacturing facilities are GMP-certified.
There have been no reports of serious side effects from Amazing Grass products when used as directed. However, everyone is different and some consumer reviews report mild bloating and other digestive discomfort, which is a potential side effect of most greens powders.
While the ingredients in Amazing Grass are generally considered safe, you should ask your doctor before adding the greens powder to your diet. As with most supplements, there is some risk that ingredients may interact with prescription medications.
Amazing Grass Cost Analysis
A 30-serving container of Amazing Grass Greens Blend costs $26.99, which breaks down to about $0.90 per serving. Here are a few other factors to consider when evaluating the overall value of the product:
- A 60-serving container is available for $48.99 ($0.82 per serving), a 100-serving container for $84.99 ($0.85 per serving), and a 15-serving box for $22.99 ($1.54 per serving).
- Amazing Grass offers a 5% discount for purchasing two same-sized containers and a 10% discount for purchasing three same-sized containers or more.
- There is no subscription option through the Amazing Grass website, but one is available when purchasing on Amazon.
- The company has a 30-day return policy and offers full refunds for unused products, plus a 60-day Satisfaction Guarantee.
- Free shipping is only available on the manufacturer's website for orders totaling $60 or more; otherwise, you must pay a $7.99 shipping fee.
Overall, this places Amazing Grass Green Superfood at the more affordable end of the greens powder market. A 30-serving container of Amazing Grass is far less expensive than AG1 (starting at $79) and nearly breaks even with Live it Up Super Greens ($39.99 with a subscription and free shipping) when you consider their $8 shipping.
Amazing Grass Taste Review
True to its name, Amazing Grass Green Superfood has a distinctly earthy, grassy taste and smell. I found it milder than some other greens powders on the market. While the product has a high average rating overall, customer reviews on flavor and texture are mixed.
Thankfully, there are a few different flavor options, including:
- The Original
- Pineapple
- Berry
- Chocolate
On my first couple of uses, I found it difficult to dissolve the powder completely. The result was a very grainy, gritty texture after it was mixed, much like certain protein powders. After reading other reviews, I discovered I could get smoother drinks and smoothies by adding the powder very gradually rather than trying to blend it all at once.
Taste comes down to individual preference, but I personally prefer products with a lighter, more refreshing flavor that I don't need to disguise with other ingredients. Live it Up Super Greens, for example, has a hint of peppermint and uses a monk fruit extract for a slight sweetness without an artificial aftertaste. With Amazing Grass, I had to do a bit more work to make a drink that I enjoyed.
Why I Recommend Live it Up Super Greens
While much of the Amazing Grass Green Superfood formula consists of a concentrated blend of organic grasses, fruits, and vegetables, it lacks comprehensive digestive support, its vitamin and mineral content is limited, and it includes the filler silica. Compare that to Live it Up's gut health blend and long list of all-natural vitamin content, which comes from its blend of whole-food organic vegetables, and there's no contest.
Taste and texture are also primary concerns when it comes to incorporating a green superfood supplement into your diet. Amazing Grass doesn't have the worst-tasting greens powder on the market, but I don't think its grassy taste and gritty texture is as widely palatable as the surprisingly pleasant, minty flavor of Live it Up Super Greens, which is also available in a Wild Berries flavor for those who don’t prefer mint.
It's worth noting that every individual has unique health concerns and goals. However, of the greens powders on the market today, I would recommend Live it Up to my clients given the value of the potential nutritional benefits it offers for the price.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some answers to our most common questions about Amazing Grass Greens.
Is Amazing Grass actually good for you?
Amazing Grass Green Superfood may have some health benefits due to its blend of whole vegetables and fruits, antioxidant content, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and probiotics. The brand purports to offer benefits such as vitality, immunity, and a healthy gut, but a lack of certain essential vitamins and its weaker digestive formula make these claims uncertain.
Instead, I typically recommend Live it Up Super Greens as a better greens powder to my clients. It contains a much more comprehensive list of vitamins and minerals than Amazing Grass, and its formula includes a superior gut health blend with more probiotic content.
Does Amazing Grass greens have probiotics?
Yes, Amazing Grass organic greens have the probiotic Bacillus subtilis listed as an ingredient. This specific probiotic may be associated with immune health but has not been shown to have any significant positive impacts on digestion the way some consumers may expect a probiotic to. Additionally, this greens powder only includes 1 billion CFU of probiotics, which is on the low end of the recommended dose for most people.
What are the side effects of Amazing Grass greens powders?
There have been no reports of serious side effects of Amazing Grass Green Superfood powder. However, some customer reviews on websites like Amazon report mild bloating and other digestive discomfort after using Amazing Grass. If you’re concerned about potential allergic reactions or medication interactions, be sure to talk with your healthcare provider before incorporating this supplement into your routine.
How many times a day can you eat Amazing Grass?
You can consume Amazing Grass Green Superfood powder more than once per day, and the company states on its website that all of its powder products are safe to consume more than one serving per day. It also states that most customers only use a single scoop per day and that more than one serving is not needed if you eat other sources of greens.
Does Amazing Grass give you energy?
Amazing Grass claims that its Green Superfood powder supports vitality. It doesn't claim to give you energy, and even its claim about vitality is difficult to prove. It does contain essential vitamins and nutrients like iron and vitamin C and trace amounts of caffeine from its green tea content, but it lacks others like magnesium, B vitamins, and vitamin D.
