Zena Greens vs. Live it Up: Why Super Greens Ranks #1 for a Dietitian

With excellent nutrient density, digestion support, and delicious flavors, Super Greens edges out Zena Greens as our dietitian’s pick for the best all-around greens powder.

Zena Greens vs. Live it Up: Why Super Greens Ranks #1

As I’ve learned from my research as a registered dietitian, a high-quality greens powder can be an excellent addition to your daily nutrition. When choosing a green supplement, it’s essential to confirm that the powder matches its purported health benefits.

In this article, we’ll look closely at two popular greens powders, Live it Up Super Greens and Zena Organic Supergreens, and explore their ingredients, health claims, taste, cost, and customer reviews.

Though I love the idea of any product that helps people increase their fruit and vegetable intake and form healthy habits, Live it Up is my first choice for a daily greens powder. It’s a convenient, affordable way to support your wellness goals – and the best-tasting greens powder I've tried!

5 Dietitian Reasons to Choose Live it Up Over Zena Greens

When adding a new supplement to your diet, you’ll want to choose the best one for your health goals. Keep in mind factors like formula transparency, effective doses, digestion support, flavor options, and customer satisfaction.

Here are the top reasons why I prefer Live it Up Super Greens.

1. Live it Up offers transparent nutrition

A quick glance at the Supplement Facts reveals a major difference: Live it Up Super Greens discloses the micronutrient content, whereas Zena Greens does not.

While Live it Up lists specific amounts of vitamins and minerals like Vitamins A, Vitamin K, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B12, folate, calcium, iron, iodine, magnesium, chromium, and more, Zena Greens lists only tiny amounts of calcium, iron, and potassium, and doesn’t mention a single vitamin.

And without transparency about micronutrient content, it’s hard for me to put much faith in Zena’s claims to support a healthy immune system and normal energy levels.

2. Live it Up has gut support you can rely on

To promote a healthy microbiome, Live it Up Super Greens contains 5 billion CFU of probiotics from two strains of Lactobacillus and two strains of Bifidobacterium. Super Greens also contains 3g fiber and three dietary enzymes for additional digestion support.

Zena Greens also contains digestive enzymes, 3g fiber, and several strains of probiotics. However, neither the Supplement Facts nor the website discloses the quantity of probiotics in each serving, leaving customers wondering whether their daily greens powder delivers probiotic support.

To benefit from the helpful bacteria provided by a probiotic supplement, make sure you’re getting a large enough dose. Many dietitians suggest a minimum of 3-5 billion colony-forming units (CFU) per serving.

3. Live it Up features concentrated superfoods

When it comes to ingredient lists, bigger isn’t always better. Live it Up and Zena Greens have the same serving size (8g) yet vastly different ingredient lists.

Rather than overstuffing with dozens of ingredients, Live it Up features 20 carefully chosen superfoods in its greens blend (7.3g) so you get more of each. The Super Greens formula offers concentrated, nutrient-dense greens and vegetables, including dark leafy greens, cereal grasses, algae, seaweed, cruciferous vegetables, herbs, and roots.

Zena Greens packs over 50 of its ingredients into its superfood blends (4.6g), ranging from fruit and vegetable powders to berries and adaptogens. Yet that's over double the individual ingredients as Live it Up in a fraction of the size, so Zena’s ingredients must be included in significantly smaller amounts, which makes me question if they're effective doses.

4. Live it Up is smooth, not too sweet, and delicious

Live it Up comes in two tasty flavors loved by customers: the lightly minty Original and the fruit-focused, somewhat tart Wild Berries. Both varieties offer the same nutritional boost and can be combined with water, milk, juice, or a smoothie for a refreshing, easy-to-prepare beverage.

While many greens powders, including Zena Greens, are sweetened with stevia, Live it Up Super Greens uses monk fruit extract. Many people prefer this zero-calorie sweetener over stevia, due to monk fruit’s more natural and less intensely sweet taste.

Zena’s green powder comes in Mixed Berry, Mango, and Green Apple. While many customers enjoy these sweet, fruity flavors, others find it necessary to disguise the overly sweet taste and somewhat gritty texture by blending Zena Greens into a smoothie.

5. Live it Up is 100% caffeine-free

Many people enjoy Live it Up Super Greens as a naturally caffeine-free boost to start their day. Ingredients like wheatgrass, spirulina, and moringa provide energy-supporting vitamins and minerals, including magnesium, iron, vitamin A, vitamin K, and B complex vitamins.

Zena Greens contains a small amount of caffeine from green tea extract. The company doesn’t specify how much caffeine is included per serving, but it’s not likely to have a noticeable effect on energy levels.

Everyone has a different level of caffeine tolerance. If you're one of the sensitive individuals, you may want to avoid supplements containing green tea extract.

Zena vs. Live it Up Potential Health Benefits

Zena Nutrition and Live it Up propose several potential health benefits customers may experience when taking their respective greens powders. Here’s a rundown of whether they’re likely to deliver these benefits:

Zena Purported Benefits

  1. Hydration: Zena’s hydration blend contains organic coconut water powder, widely considered a good source of electrolytes, as well as powdered broccoli, green cabbage, and celery. However, the main hydration benefit of Zena Greens comes from drinking the powder with a glass of water.
  2. Gut Health: Zena Greens features several ingredients that could be useful for digestive health, including prebiotics, dietary fiber, and three enzymes. Zena also contains multiple strains of probiotics; however, the label doesn’t state the quantity, raising questions about whether they meet a minimum probiotic dose.
  3. Immunity: You’ll find plenty of nutrient-dense, immune-supporting ingredients in Zena Greens, from antioxidant-rich berries to dark leafy greens. Unfortunately, due to the lack of information on the Supplement Facts, there’s no way of knowing which essential nutrients they offer.
  4. Energy and Fatigue: The green tea extract in Zena Greens offers a small amount of caffeine. However, the effects on energy balance are probably not noticeable unless you are especially sensitive to caffeine. It’s more likely that Zena’s organic super mushroom blend could positively impact focus and concentration, assuming that these fatigue-fighting mushrooms are included in sufficient quantities.

Live it Up Purported Benefits

  1. Gut Health: Live it Up takes digestion support seriously with its gut-friendly formula. Each serving provides 5 billion CFU of dairy-free probiotics, three digestive enzymes to promote nutrient absorption, and 3g of dietary fiber to support digestive regularity and help with bloating.
  2. Immunity: Super Greens contains leafy greens like spinach and kale that provide micronutrients associated with healthy immune function, including vitamin A, folate, iron, and zinc.
  3. Energy Levels: Live it Up Super Greens is a 100% caffeine-free way to support normal energy levels, and many customers end up swapping their morning coffee for a glass of Super Greens. The powder’s natural energy support comes from superfoods and essential vitamins and minerals like magnesium, potassium, vitamin K, and vitamin B-complex that contribute to sustained energy throughout the day.

Taste Comparison

Even with the best intentions, it’s not easy to stick with a healthy habit if you don’t like the taste. Here’s what customers are saying about the flavors and texture of Live it Up vs. Zena Greens.

Texture

Some customers find it gritty or chalky. May be improved with a blender or hand mixer.

Fine powder that mixes evenly for a smooth, easy-to-drink consistency.

Tastes best when mixed with …

Smoothies, ice water, or fruit juice.

Water, milk, plant-based milk, juice, smoothies, or sprinkled into yogurt or oatmeal.

Many of Zena’s customers are excited about the formula and enjoy the three flavors. I liked Mixed Berry but it was too sweet for me and the texture was gritty.

One reviewer said the "flavor tastes very good," especially in smoothies. An Amazon customer was disappointed he found Zena "sickeningly sweet," and another customer said she liked the Green Apple flavor, but "the grainy consistency ruined the experience."

Live it Up’s customers are pleasantly surprised by the powder’s delicious taste and the new fruity flavor option. Super Greens also blends smoothly every time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Still curious about how Zena Greens and Live it Up compare? Check out my answers to these commonly asked questions.

What is the highest-rated greens supplement?

Live it Up regularly rates highly in rankings from publications like Wired and New York Post for its affordability, subtly sweet taste, and balanced nutritional profile. It also has excellent reviews from thousands of customers. Other superfood supplements that appear in “best green powders” lists include Vibrant Health Green Vibrance, AG1 (Athletic Greens), and Bloom Greens.

Are Zena Greens actually good for you?

Zena Greens contains dozens of quality ingredients, many of which are considered superfoods, such as adaptogens, mushrooms, berries, algae, and leafy greens. The product is USDA-certified organic, third-party tested, and an excellent choice for many people. However, because the manufacturer doesn’t disclose the vitamin and mineral content or CFU of probiotics plus small serving of superfoods (4.6g per serving), it’s difficult to fully assess the formula’s nutritional value.

Is Live it Up Greens better than AG1?

While AG1 is a good choice for athletes or individuals trying to fill serious nutrient deficiencies, Live it Up Greens may be better for people looking for a daily greens supplement to support their everyday nutrition. Live it Up offers concentrated superfoods in effective doses and is far more affordable than AG1, at $1.33 per serving compared to $2.63.

Does Zena Greens have stevia?

Yes, Zena Greens is sweetened with stevia. Stevia is generally recommended as safe (GRAS) by the FDA. It may affect the gut microbiome and is known for a zingy, lingering flavor. On the other hand, Live it Up Super Greens uses monk fruit extract, a natural no-calorie sweetener that many prefer to stevia because it doesn’t have an aftertaste.
