Biogena One Review 2025: An Honest Analysis

With an extensive ingredient list and robust marketing, can Biogena One go toe-to-toe with top greens powders? Our dietitian dives in.

Biogena One Review 2025: Is This an AG1 Dupe?
In this article:
In this article:

I get giddy when a new greens powder crosses my feed, as I’m endlessly looking for the best products to recommend to my nutrition clients. So, when I stumbled across Biogena One, I initially mistook the minimalist marketing, packed formula, and extreme health claims for the ever-popular Athletic Greens. I decided to try Biogena One for myself and see if it actually is an AG1 dupe worth considering.

After comparing the nutrition facts, ingredient list, purported health benefits, price, and taste, I confidently stand by my tried-and-true favorite, Live it Up Super Greens. Though Biogena One does an excellent job at recreating AG1’s complex ingredient list, influencer vibe, and elite packaging (and price), it falls short in many of the same ways AG1 does; concerns of ingredient stuffing, vitamin toxicity, and expensive price feel like it tried to copy and paste AG1. Below, I investigate the facts so that you can decide for yourself whether Biogena One might meet your needs.

Biogena One Quick Facts

  • Key ingredients:
    • 99 ingredients for overall wellness
    • 5 billion CFU of probiotics
    • Herbs and adaptogens like ashwagandha, green tea leaf, ginger, and wasabi leaf powder
    • 3 amino acids and 24 vitamins, minerals, and trace elements
  • Flavors: The single Original flavor tastes of apple-kiwi and is described as lightly sweet.
  • Manufacturer health claims: Aims to support digestion and gut health, energy levels, immunity, and performance.
  • Possible side effects:
    • May cause digestive upset if you don’t typically get sufficient superfoods in your daily diet.
    • Contains trace caffeine due to inclusion of matcha.
    • Contains soy and sulfites, making it unsuitable for some people with allergies.
  • Nutrition facts: One 10g stick pack =
    • 30 calories
    • 6 grams of carbohydrates
    • 1 gram of fiber
    • 1 gram of protein
    • 24 vitamins and minerals (many of which are synthetically added)
  • Container size: 30 single-serving stick packs
  • Price:
    • $99 for 30 servings ($3.30 per serving)
    • $109 for 30 servings with the starter bundle ($3.63 per serving)
    • $49.50 for 30 servings with a subscription ($1.65 per serving)
  • Shipping: Cost is calculated by location.

Bottom Line: Is Biogena One Worth a Try?

Though Biogena One could be considered a new AG1 alternative, the price, overstuffed ingredients, use of synthetic vitamins, and inclusion of sucralose do not make Biogena One worth it in my opinion. The formula contains trendy superfoods like matcha and medicinal mushrooms (including reishi powder) but lacks transparency about the exact amounts of each ingredient, making it unclear whether the quantities of each are effective or just listed on the ingredient list for clout.Ā

What Is Biogena?

This Austrian-based company started in 2006 with the goal of helping customers realize their ā€œpersonal potential,ā€ ideally through their line of micronutrient supplements. Today, 22 scientists, nutritionists, pharmacists, and food technologists are the core of Biogena, ensuring that products are science-based and follow the ā€œpure substance principleā€ of high quality. According to the website, Biogena is still completely family-owned and every batch is manufactured near the company’s headquarters in Salzburg.Ā

Biogena Pros

  • Thorough ingredient list containing leafy greens, fruits, super mushrooms, botanicals, and more for a healthy diet
  • Contains probiotics from lacto and bifidobacteria strains for gut health
  • Free of sugar, nuts, dairy, and gluten

  • Meets Austria’s LEFO Institute’s high quality standards
  • Company is family-owned and directly manages the production (not produced by third-party manufacturers)

Biogena Cons

  • Concerns of efficacy due to extensive ingredients
  • Extremely high price, especially for a one-time purchase
  • Includes synthetically derived nutrientsĀ

  • No digestive enzymes
  • Sweetened with sucralose, which may have negative side effects for some people
  • Only one flavor option
  • Expensive
  • Contains soy and trace caffeine

Biogena One Purported Benefits

Biogena One’s supplement drink claims to offer numerous health benefits, from mental fitness to immunity, energy, digestion, body strength, and healthy aging. Below, I take a closer look at whether the formula may live up to these claims.

Biogena One Purported Benefits

Benefit #1: Immunity

At a glance, Biogena One offers many of the essential nutrients needed for a functioning immune system: vitamin C (355% DV), vitamin D (125% DV), magnesium (13% DV), and zinc (45% DV). Compared to AG1, I was relieved to see less exorbitant levels of each vitamin and mineral (AG1’s 467% DV of vitamin C, for example). Though these vitamins are synthetically created, the formula has the right ingredients to potentially help with immune system regulation.Ā Ā

Additionally, Biogena contains 3 amino acids: L-glutamine, glycine, and L-lysine. These compounds may help the body better fight infection and maintain a responsive immune system.Ā

Dietitian Tip: Although synthetic vitamins (vitamins made in a laboratory, rather than derived from whole foods) are generally considered safe, they are more likely to contain fillers or other additives. Some experts also note that synthetically made vitamins may not be absorbed by the body as easily.

Benefit #2: Energy Levels and Mental Fitness

The formula contains some of the essential nutrients for energy—riboflavin (323% DV), vitamin B6 (247%), vitamin B12 (312%), calcium (10% DV), and the mineral magnesium (13% DV). These vitamins and minerals work together to help the body produce energy.Ā

My first thought as a dietitian was that the quantities of B vitamins were excessive; though experts do not have a recommended maximum amount of B vitamins, the body naturally flushes the excess out. These high numbers felt more like a marketing ploy to me than anything, so you’re paying a premium for vitamins your body may not even use.

Benefit #3: Digestion

As I tell my clients, probiotics, prebiotics, dietary fiber, and digestive enzymes are essential to support a healthy gut synergistically. Biogena One checks some of these boxes, but falls short in other areas. The formula has:

  • 5B CFU of probiotics from a mix of 10 different lacto and bifidobacteria strains
  • 20mg of beta-glucans, soluble fiber and a natural prebiotic
  • 1g of dietary fiber (4% DV)
  • No digestive enzymes

This supplement drink has the foundations for gut health but lacks necessary support from digestive enzymes and enough fiber. Overall, I feel like Biogena’s digestive claims are fair, but other products do a better job at offering gut-friendly ingredients.Ā

Biogena One Ingredients Breakdown

With nearly 100 ingredients in this massive formula, there are far too many for me to discuss. That extreme number also means you’re unlikely to fit an effective amount of each ingredient in a single 10-gram stick pack. Let’s take a deeper dive into Biogena One’s core ingredient groups to find out more.

Biogena One Ingredients Breakdown

Greens and Superfruit Blend

At a whopping 3780mg, this is by far the largest blend in Biogena One’s formula. The blend contains the usual suspects you’d expect in a fruit and vegetable powder: apple, cucumber, kiwi, moringa leaf, barley grass, wheat grass, carrot, spinach, broccoli, celery, kale, and more. Plus, more unlikely additions like papaya, artichoke, bitter melon, pumpkin, and astragalus.Ā

Astragalus is an adaptogen often used in traditional medicine as an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory agent. Though rich in antioxidants, the formula does not list the exact dosage. Though I assume the dose is low, medium to high doses can be dangerous for some people. If you’re taking medications or are concerned that this adaptogen may have a negative interaction in your body, discuss with your doctor or opt for a different formula.Ā

Herbal and Botanical Blend

This blend of herbs and botanicals features a myriad of ingredients known for their nutrient-rich properties: chicory root, green mint, baobab, matcha, ginseng, ginkgo, maca root, aloe vera, nettle leaf, ginger, dandelion, hops, sage, rosemary, lavender, saffron, and more.Ā

As I was studying this list, it started to feel more and more like a recipe for something I’d cook at home than a green drink! Though many herbs and spices offer anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, I am concerned that this blend has too many ingredients to be effective.

Also of note is the inclusion of matcha, although the exact amount of this caffeine-rich ingredient is not specified. If you’re trying to avoid caffeine, opt for another product that does not include forms of green tea.Ā

Antioxidant and Polyphenol Blend

This blend of antioxidant-rich foods includes acai, bilberry, black currant, pomegranate, grape, olive leaf, and citrus fruit bioflavonoids. Polyphenols are naturally occurring compounds in plants that offer possible antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. Considering that the three blends are packed with antioxidant-rich ingredients (despite each item likely being underdosed), I feel confident that Biogena One offers sufficient amounts of valuable polyphenols all-together.Ā

Biogena One Quality and Safety

Biogena One is manufactured in a company-owned and run facility outside of Salzburg, Austria. Because this product is manufactured overseas, it is not GMP-certified, nor is it USDA-certified organic. However, the company states that the manufacturing facilities and ingredients meet the high quality standards of the LEFO Institute, a third-party organization for quality and safety testing.

Biogena One states that every batch of the super greens powder undergoes rigorous testing to ensure it is free of heavy metals, pesticides, and other toxins. Though some of the ingredients are organic, most are not. Compared to Live it Up Super Greens, I was disappointed to find this more-expensive product lacking in organic ingredients.Ā

For those wondering if Biogena One is an AG1 dupe, it is important to point out that the product is not NSF-Certified for Sport. However, the company states that the powder makes the Cologne List, which is often considered an equivalent to the NSF certification.Ā

When it comes to allergens, Biogena One is vegan, dairy-free, nut-free, and gluten-free. However, the product contains soy and sulfites, making it unsafe for some with those allergies to consume.Ā

Biogena One Cost Analysis

Biogena One is one of the most expensive powders on the market and has three purchase options. Compared to brands like Live it Up Super Greens, I found the prices exorbitant for what you’re getting:

  • One-time purchase of a 30-day box: $99 ($3.30 per serving; more expensive than a one-time purchase of AG1!)
  • One-time purchase of the starter bundle: $109 ($3.63 per serving); includes a shaker bottle and 30-day supply of stick packs
  • Subscription: $49.50 monthly ($1.65 per serving); minimum 2-month commitment

It is important to know that the company does not have free shipping—so, on top of these high prices, be prepared to pay an extra fee. I found the extremely high one-time purchase cost especially frustrating because finding the right greens for you often takes trial-and-error. This cost barrier is reason enough to prioritize trying other greens powders before ordering Biogena One.

Oddly, the website does not list a return policy on their website. Instead, they ask that you email their customer support team to request a return. This murky policy makes me wonder how difficult it is to get a return. Generally, I recommend seeking out a product that has clear return and money-back policies so you can try the product for yourself risk-free.Ā

Dietitian Tip: Affordability is one of the most important factors to consider when choosing a greens supplement. If paying $50+ per month is too much, odds are you won’t keep the habit! I recommend all my clients choose a supplement that is in their budget (shipping costs included) to ensure you reap the benefits of regularly drinking your greens.

Biogena One Taste Review

According to the website, Biogena One’s supplement drink has a uniquely fruity, apple-kiwi flavor, balanced by refreshing cucumber and a slight kick from wasabi.

One reviewer said that the formula has ā€œa pleasant taste and it’s easy to drink.ā€ Not enough reviews exist yet for this product, as it is still relatively new in the U.S.Ā

I want to call out that the product is sweetened with sucralose, a sugar alternative that is only safe in small amounts and comes with some health risks. Better known by the brand name Splenda, this artificial sweetener can have an overly sweet taste. Though the company does not disclose exactly how much sucralose is in the product, they state that it is well below the safety guidelines for sucralose consumption.

However, I would still prefer that Biogena use a natural sweetener. Live it Up naturally sweetens its greens with monk fruit, which does not pose the same potential health risks as sucralose.Ā

As far as the texture goes, the website simply recommends consuming this supplement drink immediately after mixing with water. This leads me to believe that the formula has a gritty texture with residue that settles at the bottom.Ā

Why I Recommend Live it Up Super Greens

Live it Up Supergreens

Between the affordable price, transparent money-back guarantee and return policy, natural sweetener, and concentrated ingredients, Live it Up Super Greens is still my dietitian-approved super greens pick as it prioritizes all-natural ingredients and a balanced nutritional profile. Though Biogena One boasts 99 ingredients, many of which are rare and scientifically-backed, it likely lacks ingredient efficacy, does not contain digestive enzymes, and relies heavily on synthetic vitamins and sweeteners.

In my book, Live it Up is the stronger choice to support health and well-being. You can’t beat the company’s commitment to zero artificial additives, high-quality and nutrient-dense formula, and affordability. That being said, I encourage you to do the research and use your findings to make an informed decision that is right for your body, lifestyle, and preferences.

Frequently Asked Questions

Still unsure if greens powders are right for you? Let’s dive deeper into some frequently asked questions about these popular supplements.Ā

What is the best alternative to AG1?

Live it Up Super Greens is the best AG1 alternative for its use of whole-food nutrients, balanced vitamin and mineral quantities, and affordable price. Additionally, AG1 was formulated with athletes in mind, making many of the formula’s high vitamin levels possibly unsafe for the average person. If you want an affordable, reliable super greens powder to support your overall health, Live it Up Super Greens is my recommendation.

Is Biogena One worth it?

Between the over-packed ingredient list, extreme levels of certain vitamins and minerals, lack of digestive enzymes, and inclusion of sucralose, Biogena One is not worth the high price. Though the subscription price makes the cost per month more palatable, Biogena One does not offer a balanced mix of whole-food nutrients.Ā

Is AG1 actually worth it?

In my opinion, no. Between the high price point, concerns of ineffective ingredient quantities, and extremely high amounts of vitamin K, AG1 is not worth the extreme price. Similarly, Biogena One, a new AG1 dupe, raises similar concerns due to its expensive price, overstuffed ingredient list, and extreme amounts of certain vitamins and minerals. Opting for a formula like Super Greens from Live it Up has fewer ingredients but ensures you’re getting effective amounts of vitamins and minerals in every scoop.Ā

Is greens powder good for you?

Yes! Only 1 in 10 American adults get enough fruits and veggies in their daily routine. To address this gap, greens powders are an effective and easy way to increase your fruit and veggie intake and get the nutrients you need to help your body feel its best and lead a healthy lifestyle. Of course, not all greens powders are equal, so it is important to do the research to find one that is high quality, within your budget, and offers the nutrients you need.
